From buy.com with Quantum rebate. I couldn't find a better deal in the threads.

Rebate

Forgot shipping about $6.

It seems that they have raised the price.

Maybe throw a $XX off $XXX coupon on top of this to sweeten the deal?

Nice find!

stlgreg, Staples does carry quantum drives. They have the 20GB model, but the rebate doesn't apply because the rebate doesn't list staples.com as one of the marketers.

I bought the 40 GB drive from buy.com last week during free shipping days to support the in-state retailer. Unfortunately, it broke down so I'm RMA'ing it. While the drive didn't completely die, for whatever reason, a day after installation it was operating at 1/30 of full speed. When it was initially working, it was fast and whisper-quiet. The reviews I've read seem to indicate that the new WD 40 GB is faster, but generally a little pricier.

To make a long story short, I still have faith in this particular drive so I ordered it this afternoon from Outpost.com. It has already shipped and is due for delivery tomorrow. I'd suggest taking advantage of Outpost's free shipping/no sales tax policy, even though they price the drive a few dollars higher. Yes, they are a retailer participating in Quantum's rebate program.

Quantum sucks on fulfilling rebates. I am still fighting to get a $30 rebate I submitted last September, 26 weeks ago! The problem is that I put in a different $30 Quantum rebate a couple of months after the September rebate. Now Quantum claims this rebate check from December covers either rebate, whichever one is convenient at the given time. End result is one $30 rebate instead of two. I haven't given up hope just yet, but now the problem is I put in another AS rebate last month. Now if I get another $30 check, Quantum will claim my rebates are fulfilled. I think I will have to go the California Attorney General's office to get my money. Some people might think I was stupid to keep buying these drives, but the product is good and the price was right, especially if the rebates come through.

if there's a lot of trouble w/ the rebate... it might not be worth it. altho this drive for this price with a coupon is not half bad! =)
