30FPS will Always Deliver Better Story-Telling than 60FPS in Games – Heres Why Read

I am sure some of you have seen this nonsense but if not then its worth reading for a laugh. http://wccftech.com/30fps-vs-60fps-30fps-better-story-telling-games/

whats sad is the author says in the comments "Off the top of my head, I have personally won the 3rd Largest Film Festival of Asia, Worked in Unreal Engine and Source Engine, Coded Games in the SDK and Dev Kit."

really how does a guy who thinks 30 fps is better than 60 fps have anything to do with games? it takes 10 seconds of just panning around in a game at 30 fps to see it stutters and is choppy compared to 60 fps. and only an idiot would reference pre rendered film fps as if it has any relation to an action/shooter game where you can control movement.

If I don't get 50FPS ish minimum @ "High" settings at 1920x1200 gaming, its time to upgrade, dips to 40FPS notwithstanding due to the game engine/level. I'll never play at 30FPS. Ever. Its horrific.

What a rubbish article. The author realizes the cause - that people are used to seeing videos at low framerates - but somehow gets the effect completely wrong. Viewers being used to low framerates doesn't mean low framerates are better, it means viewers need to be "broken" and have their frame of reference reset.

Meanwhile the author doesn't even realize that the "48fps" video he linked to is interpolated from a 24fps source; it's not even a native video. Which defeats the whole purpose of using it as an example.

I have never seen the soap opera effect happen in a game while i can see it on videos so i don't know what he's saying about how "30FPS will Always Deliver Better Story-Telling than 60FPS in Games"

I will agree with him on the 24 vs 48 FPS for film, 48 FPS feels weird.

But gaming, not cuts immersion more than enjoying 60 FPS only to go into a cutscene locked at 30 FPS and first thing you notice is how jumpy it is.

I can't believe anyone would perpetuate the "30 fps is as good as 60 fps" myth. Playing any action game, it becomes apparent that 60 fps is way better. Whoever wrote this article is an idiot and/or blind. Christ.

While a lot of people exaggerate over how bad 30FPS (I'd say that the OP is exaggerating right now unless he only means for high-action games), this article is just ridiculous. lol. It kinda depends on the game whether or not it really needs 60+FPS, but 60FPS will still work with any game while 30FPS won't for many games.

Did not read the article but I call bs. After experiencing 60 fps and above their is no way I can play at 30 fps and not quit out of the game especially where pc's are concerned. I have noticed my self getting pretty angry whenever I see a game dips into the lower 40's because that dip is really noticeable. I have a 120 hz panel and when it does go above 60 fps the difference is also their and their lies my only issue with any graphics card. Give a minimum fps of 50 in games and I'll be very happy (I don't notice the difference between that and 60 yet unless it dips).

I didn't even want to read the article. If he is comparing watching movies to playing games then he is a moron. If he is strictly talking about playing games, then he is an incredibly dumb moron.

I enjoy 24 fps movies. Because there's no interactivity, the camera doesn't need to fly all over the place like we do in our games. Its focused on one spot. As such, constant 24 or 30 fps actually is fine.

The author got hammered in the comments section. He seems to be mixing up the film industry standard (24p) with the gaming world (fps) without knowing the difference.

I actually prefer 48fps for film. I prefer the smoother look. It takes a bit of getting used to yes, but is so much easier on my eyes once I am. I actually really dislike watching 24/29.95fps for film/tv these days unless the TV has a high refresh rate (60Hz or better) and has a smoothing mode.

This guy is just trying to make the consoles not look as bad.

This guy reminds me of the "art" director in BF3 who made everything blue, lack color, lens flare, super bright sun, so the game plays and looks worse.

Is the photo portrait on the top left the actual author? Maybe the youthful age inhibits a better perspective on the situation?
