Question 3080 Ti + 5950X / 7950X -- 1000W Titanium enough?

Hi,

I'm looking at upgrading my GPU from a 6600 XT to a Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080 Ti.

• Currently using a Corsair HX750i.
• Upgrading to the 7950X when it is released.
• Running 3 m.2 drives + 2 sata SSDs.
• The case is the fractal design torrent.

Is 1000W titanium+ enough?

I'm currently considering either the Seasonic Prime TX-1000 Titanium 1000W or the be quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 Titanium Modular 1200W.

Just to be clear, you are talking about upgrading your motherboard, CPU and RAM to the new Ryzen 7000 series when they are out? I want to be sure we aren't confused with upgrading the GPU later to the high end Radeon RX 7000 series. As we do not know how much power those draw yet, but it could be a lot.

If you mean to be sticking with the 3080 Ti for a while, and using either the Ryzen 5950X or Ryzen 7950X, then yes, that should be fine. The power draw of any Ryzen should be < 200W I expect, and a 3080 Ti likely around 350W.

If you would consider the upcoming high end cards, there are rumors that the top end Geforce models may draw 600W or more, but who knows, so take that with a grain of salt. Top end Radeon upcoming cards are expected to draw less than this, but may still be very power hungry compared to the current lineups. So based on your question, of RTX 3080 Ti and and a 16 core Ryzen, you should be more than fine, but for upcoming cards, who knows.

Correct, I plan on upgrading mobo + CPU + RAM to the new Ryzen 7000 series.
However, I will be keeping my 3080 Ti for sometime as it is plenty for my needs.

In that case, I think I will opt for the 1000 watt PSU as it will fit a bit better in the case.

I use the 1000W version of the Seasonic Prime power supply in my home server running 24/7. I have the 850W version in my main rig. For now, if my need was greater, I could swap the power supplies and be ok. I run a 5950X and a 1080 Ti. If you're using a 3080 Ti, you are gonna be fine for years.

Last 10 yrs, I have gone from 750w - 600w - 750w, & today I ordered 1KW to fix this problem & for future upgrade path. With news that upcoming GPUs will drink more power than ever before.
Playing an UE4 game last night I saw 530w from my watt-a-meter for the whole box... & that was within the whole map of that segment in the game. Though typically that particular game uses 450w - 500w peak so far.... There is something about this popular game engine not being optimised across all maps within a game that annoys me.

So be aware that the end user can't control poorly optimised segments within the game code.

Thanks, but I don't think the extra cost of titanium grade PSU is worth it imo. Besides, I have already ordered Corsair's 1Kw RMx V2 PSU. A highly rated PSU across multiple review websites today. The efficiency dividend between gold grade & titanium grade is not justified by the cost of electricity per Kw/hr where I live & my daily usage model.
