IIRC, it's a lot cheaper to book reception halls and the like for Mondays.

Yeah that's kinda what I thought too, but they used the excuse that it was their anniversary of when they met.

It just irritates me to have pay all that cash to fly down, stay, and now have to blow a vacation day or 2 on it.

I understand. Do it to be a good friend... and make sure that you bring it up again down the line when you need something. ;)

My brother did something similar. Got married where the bride's parents lived.. across the country. Unfortunately nearly ALL of my family and ALL of the brides friends and family are in the same area.. NOWHERE NEAR the bride's parents.. :\ Pissed me off, but it was my brother and I was the best man.. I couldn't say no! :)

Ok, so I've been to alot of weddings, all on Saturday or Sunday.

But my friends, who are getting married in another state 2000 miles away, insist on doing it on a Monday. (and are insisting me and my girlfriend come)

So now, not only do I have to pay $500-$600 airfare + hotel to go see their wedding, I now have to miss at least one day of work.

Am I just way off base here, or isn't that kinda selfish to your 100+ guests who don't live in the state you are getting married in to make them take time off work. Grrrr.

Or I'm just really cheap. :)

Yeah, sounds like they are being the cheap ones! Even people that live in town, why would you want to go to a reception on a Monday? Friday night, Saturday or Sunday should be the only acceptable days to get married unless you go to Vegas!

Nah, pretty selfish of them if you ask me.

I had to do a 12 hour plane ride to get to where my brother got married. Thankfully I didn't pay for it. Weddings are bullsh*t. I recommend in your life you avoid as many as possible.
