Its up for sale at an auction on Saturday. Farm auction, out in the boonies, needs transmission I'm told. Also, AC is out as the compressor is seized.

Thoughts? There is rust behind the wheels. The interior looks nice, but it definitely looks like it has been sitting for awhile. I have a few hundred to play with, would it get this car do you think? I'll rebuild or replace the transmission, no issues there. Also, car has 186k miles, so the entire engine may very well be worn.

I dunno, those seem to be very fashionable collectors pieces. And at auctions, you can sometimes run into a guy that just HAS to have it. I've heard from uncles and father in laws that they've gone to auctions and a Harbor Freight variety air compressor will go for more than what it sells for new. Based on those few things, I'd guess it may go for more than you expect. Good luck though!

Z cars aren't exactly rare, so I can't exactly see 'restoring' one as being a better option than just buying one in good shape.

That said I have no idea what a Z31 is. Is this some kinda rare bird or something?

edit: no, says Wikipedia, that's just the chassis code.

So my vote is 'no' and look more for one that's not out in a field. And not ugly (sorry the earlier cars are just 100x more appealing to me).

I've always liked the Z31 myself, but I would consider finding one in better shape, and with manual trans of course, but that's just me.

186K is no big deal if you're doing a restore of sorts. The engine unless totally neglected is probably fine.

I remember when these cars were new and considered mediocre.
Now folks think every rear drive japanese car from the past 30 years is a <insert engine code here> from being the next Fast and furious drift dream chaser all these meh cars of my past are showing up as hot items.

probably a good choice slag. If that car was in the 200 dollar range maybe. Worth about 2 k as a runner and the tranny will get you there pretty quick.

If you want a auto z32 right now is a great time to buy. I see a ton of NA manuals on CL right now too.
