Hi, like all the thousands of other posts, I am a noob in need of a bit of help. I have my old rig - just over a year old - which I am wanting to overclock and use for folding etc. The specs are:

+ athlon 3000xp (barton and I dont think it is a locked one as it is a year or so old, I checked the tag on it and if it is locked I can get a speed stip that will unlock it)

+ Asus a7n8x-e deluxe (with latest bios)

+ ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb

+ 2 sticks of unbranded (think it could be samsung) memory

+ audigy 2 zs platinum

+ 2 sony drives - one dvd, other dvd rewrite

+ maxtor diamondmax 9 120Gb hdd

+ xp pro

+ water cooled but for silence not performance (got it as stock temps were 60) and the water is warm as it does cpu, northbridge and graphics.

Now, I would like to overclock the graphics and cpu so I can really get the best out of the system. I have read the stickys and the madshrips guide but none are specific for my mobo and it would also be helpfull to know what speeds other people got with the same set up. I have been told to just get the ati tool and let it do all the work, but also been told to change drivers for the card. I think that to overclock the CPU I am meant to up the multiplier, and then if it fails to boot, then up the voltage, and then continue.I also think that upping the voltage increases temps, so if I was to up the voltage untill it got to a temp that I was happy with and then raised the multiplier as much as I could - is that how to do it? I then get a little confused with the fsb. Also have no idea what to do when it comes to my memory - any ideas. My current scores on 3d mark 03 were under 5000. Thanks for any help that can be offered. I have some ramsinks on the way as well, to try and help. Nowhere seems to say about the voltage on graphics cards though...

Go over to nForcershq.com, they have a forum for your mobo. Do a search and you can prolly find what others are getting with that mobo and cpu

Yeah, get the current drivers for your vid card. Either the Cat 4.9 or 4.10. I use Rage 3D Tweak to OC my 9800pro. Get it HERE

What is the stock multiplier and FSB for that 3000+ (I think there are two types around, one with a 333mhz, the other a 400mhz version)?

What is your ram, PC 3200 ?

Will do...

Just looking and my defaults are 324/290. Apparently they should be like 380/340. Wanting to flash the bios, but also been told I need to know what chip my card is. Sandra says that I have this:

OEM Device Name : ATI Technologies Radeon 9800 Pro (R350)
OEM Hardware ID : FUN_0, VEN_1002, DEV_4E48, REV_00
Device Name : ATI Technologies Radeon 9800 Pro (R350)
Product ID : VEN_1002, DEV_0002
Revision : A / 1 (0)

I am guessing that from this my chip is the r350. Also checked the memory and it has the name infineon? Could be spelt differantly - dark and small text.

How do I flash this mofo then?

No idea. Will load default bios and see.

Those are the defaults for the 9800 NON-pro!

You sure you got a pro?

I'd try to OC it with Rage 3D tweak or whatever b4 I'd flash it.

If your cpu is a 333mhz with an unlocked multi, I'd first lower the multi and then see how far I could raise the FSB. Aside from the cpu, how far you can raise it past 400 mhz may depend on your ram.

Once you find your limit on FSB, then see how far you can raise the multi.

I'll wait for you to post the FSB and multi for your cpu b4 posting more.

Well thats what I paid for and sandra seems to think so. Need to flash bios but not sure how. Will do as you said.
