3000+ Venice

This is probably a strange question, but basically I am about 80% sure that I will buy the 3000+ venice as opposed to the 3200+

The only concern I have is that I think i might have a much higher chance of overclocking the 3200+ to above 2500mhz. Is this true or is it not worth the extra $50 because they will probably both overclock to the same speed?

The only reason i'm asking is some people have been telling me there is a decent chance i'll have a hard time getting above 2.4ghz with it even though i was reading that i's relatively "easy" to get them above 2.5ghz

I will be using a DFI motherboard

Only cause a 2.5ghz on the 3200+ will be 10x250 and the lower HTT makes it mor likely the mobo wont hold you back....As for the 3000+ that would take a 9x278 to get to same 2.5ghz range...278 could be make or break on some boards....

Do your research on capable mobo chipsets and you should be safer...chip willing that is...
 
The higher multi of the 3200+ also gives you more flexability in overclocking ram. In the example Duvie gave with the 3200+ at 250 x 10 you are more likely to be able to run your ram 1:1 and 250mhz DDR500. With the 3000+ at 278 x 9 you most likely would have to run a memory divider and run ram at well less than 250mhz.
 
i'm not going for high speed (low latency) ram i'm going for 2 gigs of this stuff:

After reading zebos post on ram I decided more was better than faster so I won't be able to run 1:1 either way
 
Ram is out, don't worry about that if you have read zebo's stuff. Just let us know what mobo you are running so we can get an idea of what speeds you should expect from your chip. Which DFI mobo, if it's one of the top late models then you need a 3000+ to hit 2.97Ghz max on the mobo/cpu combo. This is fine if you are running everything on air you should hit between 2.7-2.9 last time I checked. On a high end watercooling system however you might want to see a 3200+ to pull out a few hundred extra mhz but I think air is fine for your set up.

This is the MOBO i was planning to run, i am also getting either a xp90 or a xp120 sink please suggest which one would do a better job. Also if this mobo doesn't seem good please suggest another.

First: Get the Xp-90
Second: I have a 3200+ Winnie running Prime95 rock-solid at 2628 Mhz with 1.57v. I know 3000+ can go a lil´ higher on AIR, 2655 Mhz is the top for most of 3000+ Winnies. Mine, runs even at 2633 Mhz stable in Prime95 but I can only get that speed with the aid of Clockgen. If I use my Bios I can only get to 2628 Mhz (292x9), If I set the HTT to 293, the resulting speed would be 2636.9 Mhz and at that speed my chip does not run stable in Prime95, it fails after 2 hours no matter what voltage I use.
I know you´ll be buying a Venice core A64 but OC relation will be very similar to Winnies'.
It's up to you but I prefer to have a 10x multiplier just in case.
I would choose the 3200+.
 
Sound's like you want to be fast but cost efficient. You have a great setup, use the 3000+ with a 120mm cpu fan, I use a zalman 7700cu which is great but it doesn't work with ram that has LCD's, you don't care and neither do I. Get some value ram with that and you should be great (check to make sure they test your ram with the board before puchase, I use corsair and the value ram is great I hear!).
