Ok i had a gigabyte GA K8NF-9 and i wasnt able to get much past a 2.2ghz overclock. I just couldnt believe that my cpu was holding me back, so i dropped a few more bucks and got the DFI ultra d board the one with out sli. Anyways im now running windows at 6x300 perfectly stable. But of course that is just stock for this cpu as far as the clock goes. I was playing around with it and i couldnt get it to boot at 280x7 or 270x8.

All these were done with a mem divider of 1:2 and a HT of 2x I havent done alot with my voltages but i didnt try playing with them when i was running 280x7 and it didnt really make the system stable.

I can boot at 280 or 270 x 8 but windows will load then give me the blue screen of death and restart. So im wondering if it could be a sata or ide lock issue.

Anyways i would greatly appreciate some input.

Oh and my cpu temp is around 36c which seems really high to me. Im using a zalman cnp3000 or something to that effect and on the gigabyte board i was running at around 27c so im kind of wondering if maybe the gigabyte was reading on die or core temp.

Ok ive been messing around with this thing for awhile now.

The HT wasnt an issue i dont think. I am running it at 2.5xnow.

Anyways here is what i figured out. For some reason i cant run the multiplier any higher than 8x if i increase the fsb past stock.

But at 8x i was able to hit my now stable speed of 2680 or 335x8. I couldnt even boot into windows at 230x9 which is a much slower speed so i dont really understand that.

Also to get to 2680mhz im running at 1.55v so i hope that is safe.

Im still having some problems though. The only way i can even boot at 335x8 is by running my memory at a 1:2 divider which puts it at about 166mhz. Running with the 120 divider i cant even get past bios. This is with hyperx memory that i have seen go well above 200 before. I just dont get it and changing my mem voltage did nothing. Im running in dimm slots 2 and 4 i think.

The memory settings on this board are so intimidating that i wonder if i should change anything else.

I am happy with 2680. Its my memory im not happy with. Maybe i made that kind of confusing in my post. My memory wont do the 120divider it will only run at the 100 divider which yields a 166mhz speed and to say the least that pisses me off. My HyperX pc3200 is supposed to run stock at 200mhz cas2.

Yah im an idiot i completely forgot to even update the bios. Im really hoping that will work. I know its not bad memory becuase ive had this stuff on my old epox board up to 220mhz cas 2 and 230 cas 2.5.

The cas timings right now i have left at spd default and the voltage ive tried all the way to 3.1 but it makes no difference.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Oh and mariok2006 A64s are only toplocked so im not sure what your trying to say.

Last question for now is. Can i burn up a hardrive overlocking? I mean i know it can happen but what is the likely hood of it happening. Reason i ask is becuase my seagate 200gig sata drive isnt detecting in bios anymore. Ive tried different sata ports but still no detection.

Oh noes...i think only two of the SATA ports on your mobo are locked...you better hope the HDD was on the locked ones...

THis is a similar issue to what I was having with my 1GB sticks. 2x1GB sticks wouldn't run stable at 1T at any setting but 1:2. At 2T they would work up to around 166-175 MHz or so, but then would start causing severe windows bluescreen issues.

At 1:1 they would run fine at 200 MHz x 9

Personally I think it's a DFI problem, because the same RAM works fine in my S754 NF3 board at 200 MHz with a divider.

I think i figured out what is going on and dfi is going to hear about it thats for sure.

I updated the bios to the latest one off of their site using their winflash utility (no floppy). Then booted up just to check things out. All of a sudden memtest 86 starts running (comes with the latest bios as an option in bios) memtest went flawlessly showing the memory at 166mhz in dual channel. So i restarted and moved the divider to 120 and again mem test came up but to my surprise the memory was set to 1:1 running at ddr 670 or 335mhz at this speed mem test failed almost everything of course. So i went back to bios and tried 133. At 133 i couldnt even get memtest to load. Wierd so i tried auto and again no load.

So im guessing the dividers on this board are messed up. Is there anyway i can set the dividers with jumpers? Im guessing not infact im almost sure i cant but i thaught i might ask.

So looks like my day just keeps getting worse this board is now almost useless to me with this divider issue. And i just called seagate spoke to a real jerk there, but he did say my drive was bad so now i have to send it back. Well hmm......

Anyways i would still love to hear what you guys have to say or even recomendations for a different board if i have to go that route. Although this board is supposed to be the absolute best of the best when it comes to non sli boards so i may just stick with it.

that happens to me sometimes. i try to change my mem dividers, and it just wont post. then it will suddenly start to work a while later. just download A64 tweaker, and change the dividers from there. when you make a change, run prime95, and if it fails quickly, set it back.

What does A64 tweaker do? Is it a program that just overclocks in windows or does it make changes to bios through windows?

Sorry to double post guys but ive found that i can only get the divider problem to happen at above 300fsb. I seem to have found a sweetspot at 9x290 putting my memory at 185 cas 2. Im not exactly thrilled with that but im not crying about it either. Is the extra 70mhz better than the faster memory or vice versa?

Yah im pretty happy now. I have settled at 285x9 with a 140 divider giving me 199.5 on the memory and cas 2. I just did a few benchmarks and i got about 22000 in 3dmark 01, 31second super pi 1m time. Things seem to be pretty stable. Im not a big fan of running prime 95 becuase i dont have that kind of patience but i do have some 3d work to render out so we will see how it goes.

Im guessing this cpu doesnt have much over 2.6ghz in it stable anyway so resting right under 2.6 will be fine with me especially with my memory right at 200mhz.

I will be in a nice cold basement in a couple months so hopefully i can go at it again then especially if i can get my hands on a fix from dfi.

Thanks for all the help guys.
