Hi all. I just ordered a new system and have a couple questions. The system:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe MoBo
2 x 512 Corsair ValueSelect DDR400
Athlon 64 3000+ (venice)
XFX 7800GT

I am a little worried the my cpu will limit the system (bottleneck), in particular that beautiful graphics card I got. With my RAM, I know that getting decent speeds out of my 3000+ will require a divider (mind you, I am using stock cooling on everything). I don't need 3 GHz, in fact I'm fine with around 2.3 or so.

ok, here's my noob question: If I raise my HTT/FSB to 240 that gives me a cpu of 2.16 GHz (9 x 240), or a HTT/FSB of 268 gives me a cpu of 2.412 GHz. Now if I want to set my FSB at 166 (5:6) to enable this cpu with this RAM but CAN'T FIND THE EQUATION to tell me where these setting will put my RAM speeds.

I figure RAM at around 220MHz is already pushing it with this ValueRam, so I want to keep it down as much as possible.

Basically, if you use the ram divider, and set HTT to 240, your ram will run at 200.

ok thx...

should this be easily accomplished, given what we know, of a 3000+ w/ stock cooling? or does it very much depend on my particular chip?

5:6 divider should allow FSB speed of at least 265MHz, assuming the CPU can run that high.

If my math is correct, a 265MHz FSB would give me a RAM speed of 220 (any thoughts on the feasbility of this with Corsair ValueRam?) and a CPU of around 2.4 GHz... I will consider this my goal to shoot for. Last question: to achieve this, might I have to raise voltage to CPU and RAM, and if so, isn't that very dangerous (I'm thinking in particular of the CPU)?
thx again

Impossible with that craptastic ram. You can always go for 300HTT x 8 and the 133 divider.

There's no reason to think it isn't gonna make it. It's all about the timing - I'd imagine that 2.5,3,3,8 or 3,3,3,8 at 220 would be very easy for that RAM. It may even go faster. Corsair is an excellent product - I've been happy with every set of RAM I've owned by Corsair.

To keep the same 2.5-3-3-8 timings, you should be able to get around 210. I have my Corsair VS at 210 (1:1) with stock timings.
