Well I didn't get the stable 2.6GHz Anandtech got, but I'm not as experienced of an OCer nor do I have all the right equipment. Over all I'm really happy. I got stable to 2.43 GHz! That is a 35% over clock!!!

Here is my CPUz screen shot showing the voltage, multiplier, and FSB.

Thanks for looking.

Set-up:

AMD Athlon64 3000+ (Winchester)
EPoX 9NDA3+ nF3 250-Ultra
1GB Corsair Value RAM pc-3200 (It ran well to 220MHz, I was surprized)
Cheap 300watt PSU (very weak link)
Thermalright xp-90 w/92mm Panaflow (56.8 CFM)

Update your power supply and make sure you set memory dividers so that ram speed doesnt get too high and you should be able to easily get 2.5 ghz, maybe even 2.6 like AT.

Yeah the PSU is a big hold up, it will be upgraded shortly.

The memory has been cut down already from the standard 200 to 166, and at 270FSB 166 runs at 220, and it runs fine. when I took it on down to 133, it still didn't help me get anymore, so I put it back up to 166 to get a little more performance.

I think this weekend I am going to borrow my brothers Antec Neo480 and his Geil Ultra 4000 RAM and see what I can do :D

Is there any way you could write down all your bios settings for me?

I'm having trouble doing ANY type of overclocking at all, and I have a better PSU and ram...so I should atleast be able to overclock 1% :(

Check out this post I wrote here for more info.

any information on your exact bios settings would be great. In addition, I see your CPU Z doesn't show a FSB speed, it's blank. Mine shows 200 there, what did you change?

With all the special requirements for OCing, its not "steal" like it use to be. Where before you could use stock HSF, crappy PSU and achieve remarkable OC's. Now you have to get expensive ram for oc'in (which is priced rediculously IMO), 480+ watt psu's, and huge aftermarket HSF. All those add up to mucho $$$$.

Thats a pretty decent OC for a 300w PSU btw.

Would the 380W Antec PSU that comes with the Sonata be sufficient for 2.6GHz?
Edit: What would be the RAM to get for this?

It should be plenty, unless you have a bunch of drives and a very high end card, then you might look to something in the 430+ range. If I already had RAM I would adjust the ratio so it stayed near 200mhz, rather than buying new ram which would be very expensive for the performance increase. 9x289 would be about 2.6GHz, dropping the ratio to 2:3 which would normally yeild DDR266, would be more like DDR393 in this case.

how much does the power supply really matter? I have a 400 watt sparkle and the voltage readings from my motherboard are completely flat on the vcore reading and vary by 0.05 on the 12 volt.
Are these readings good enough, or would a better ps still help?
