This is a very hot deal, considering that the average resellers' cost is much more than buy.com's special price.

6MB SDRAM for video is pretty good. Most laptops only have 2.5MB.

Darn! None of the $50 off work. But the $30's do!

PW's showing "VAIO PCG-F580, Window 98 O/S Pentium® III 650MHz, 64MB RAM, 12GB HDD,15inch TFT, 8X DVD, 56K Fax Modem, full Manufacturer warranty $ 2599" as the lowest price.

Great freaking deal! :)

Maybe I'll have to keep it if I like it!

Damn this is a hot deal but I must resist the temptation but there's only 12 left ... choices, choices, choices.

How does this compare to some Dell laptops?

If I were to turn around and sell it on eGay (assuming I leave it factory sealed and do not open it), how much can it sell for realistically?

lupohki - You're right, even though the DOD page says they have 17 left and I was soo close to buying one. These have sold as high as $2,600 on eGay.

crystal - Yep if I could have bought one, it would have looked like this (using eBates):
$1,999 SONY laptop
- $30 off $150 (some say the $50 off $500 doesn't work)
- 3% eBates
- $200 mail-in rebate
- FREE shipping
---------------------
$1,709.93

Man you think thats a hot deal man you should have seen the Deal I could have had for $500. I could have had a Sony Vaio SR7K Specs:
IntelPentiumIII
processor 600 MHz 128 MB SDRAM (expandable to 256 MB max.) 12.0 GBhard drive 10.4"
XGA TFT screen with XBRITE? polysilicon technology 3 lbs. light. about 1" thin Extended-life
6-cell Lithium-Ion battery (Battery life is 3- 5 hours ) Sony MagicGateMemory Stickmedia slot Sony
Jog Dialcontrol i.LINK?(IEEE 1394) S400 interface-supports high-speed digital video, audio and
data transfer capabilities AGP enabled 256-bit graphics chip with 3D graphics support 6 MB
SGRAM Integrated V.90 56K modem 1 type II PC card slot with CardBus support 1 USB port
Built-in stereo speakers.

But I did get in on this deal for $376 for 3 of them:
ntel Pentium II-400 Mobile CPU Built-in 256K full speed Cache 14" Huge TFT 1024 x 768 High
Speed 3D Display Chip 64MB SDRAM MEMORY Removable VersaBay 24X CDROM Fast

I got this from a little known auction.
Thanks,

Well it's time to leave for work, I suppose this is a blessing in disguise because I would have probably asked myself 2 months later why did I buy this?

Or I could have turned around and sold it brand new on eGay for at least $2400-$2600 making a nice little profit essentially paying for my new Athlon 650 system with the profits.

Oh well, as my roomie says "woulda, coulda, shoulda". Looks like I'll have to start checking the DOD earlier in the mornings now and NEVER hesitate.

Will someone PLEASE smack me!!! :( :( :(

Saw the deal at 3:00 am (Weat Coaster) and decided to get one. The $50's coupons were not working so used the $30's. And got one :) But then thought I should get another one, but because could not get the $30's to work then I figured I'll get in morning. WHY? Damm! WHY?

At least got in for 1.

Great deal, wish I had the cash to pick up 2 or 3. Ugh. Saw the deal right before I went to bed. Did some searching for current prices... pondered. Closed the browser. Opened the browser, surfed to the deal of the day. pondered. Closed the browser.

(Here's where I reach the point of no return)

Opened the browser. Surfed to the credit card site. Checked the credit line. pondered. Surfed on over to buy.com, slapped a notebook into my cart. Slapped a $50 off $500 coupon on that bad boy(yes, it worked). Saw the price at around $1950. Pondered the $200 mail-in rebate goodness. Thought of the 3% dash pocketchange. Restrained myself for all of 17.3 seconds before: Submit

(One thing I didn't think of right away was the free shipping. That's a big ol' chunk of change saved. Now if I could only justify the purchase. ;) )

Thought of the credit line on the credit card. Wept.
