300 watt generic psu for athlon 2600

Hi guys, (and girls if any)

I got a
2600+ XP
512 MB 2700 RAM
2 hard drives
dvd rom
external burner
zip drive
3 fans

Now the question is : 300 W PSU that comes with the case, is that sufficient, I haven't seen anything bad though

Thanks

Edward

Ummm, no. That may last some time, but not long. I wouldn't even risk that many parts over a PSU. I'd reccomend an Antec or Enermax 350W or higher. With Antec, the higher watt rating you get, the quieter it will run, because the more powerful PSU's don't have to work as hard...

I'd have to say, move up to, at least, a 350w name brand PSU. Personally, I'd suggest getting an Enermax PSU, just because I have one and I'm very happy with it. But their pretty expensive and you may not want to spend that kind of money sooo........... anybody else got any suggestions ?????

I recommend you get a better psu. First of all, a 300w might be a bit small for the setup you're running. You might want a 380w antec true power, or something comparable. Second of all, generics usually won't even run at the advertised spec. Occasionally you'll run across a decent one, but usually they have much less output than one from a quality brand such as antec or enermax. One way to determine if yours is any good would be to see how heavy it is. If it's a real lightweight, It's definitely not going to be good enough.

Well thanks guys,
I have to get one just now, I'll get it sleeved it as well (www.korecomputers.com)
I wonder why the seller said it's plenty of power for me...

better stop buying from him then...
thanks again🙂

I am running the following on an antec 300w, and it runs great, voltages are very stable and above rated #'s.

Athlon 2600+
512mb PC3200
2 HDD
1 CDRW
1 DVD
4 Fans
Disk Drive

Can you give me your voltage readings?
Just want to compare it with mine?
So higher is better than lower?

Thanks

Edward

Thats pretty low for that system, especially a generic. I Would pick up an antec. Truepowers are better than smartpowers but either one is solid.

I don't know why the seller would tell you that's enough. It may run it, but the bottom line is, I wouldnt trust those components to a generic power supply.
