well my Mobile barton setup has served me well but I think its time to move on.

the following is what I got:

Mobile 2400 @ 2.4ghz
Abit NF7-S
2x512mb Ram 3200 speed (cheapish generic stuff)
9700np

my thought was to get a board and CPU for about 250ish and then take the 50 bucks and whatever I can get from my current board, cpu, graphics and get a video card. and was hopping I could reuse my ram. is it possible to overclock to say a 250+ FSB and still nock the divider down so my ram isn't overclocked that much?

is it worth trying to do this upgrade with my current funds or should I just wait a bit

Selling the the stuff you have should net you $450-$500 total for an upgrade. You could speed things up nicely for that. Grab a 3200+ Venice, 1 of the top overclocking 939 boards, and a 6800GS or X800GTO that unlocks and overclocks to a X800XT or faster, overclock everything and have a much faster system. And of course you can use a divider to keep your ram from bonking.

Your current processor compares to the stock 3200+ A64 which is no muck. I would suggest to stick with you current setup, sell your 9700 and get a 6800GT/X800XT+

2.4 AXP compared to 2.0 A64? I guess so...

The A64 is still a better gaming CPU even giving up the 400mhz, but it isn't like he wouldn't overclock the 3200+ and completely stomp the Barton-M in every area ;)

You should be able to upgrade to a 939 MB with a 3000+ Venice for only $200. Your current memory will be just fine as you're correct, the memory divider can accomodate slower ram no problem.

Roll that extra $100 into the $150 you should be able to get for your current mb/cpu/vid and you're $50 away from a 7800GT AR! :) That would be a HELL of an upgrade.

And upgrade to dual proc late next year when prices have fallen further and more apps take advantage of them.

I say go for it.
