They need to go further back and have a movie or scene showing how the Persians took out the Babylonians (The Battle of Opis),and effectively defeated them in a single night invasion (the "writing on the wall" phrase comes from the biblical account of this). The Romans and Greeks get too much attention, I want to see more Egyptian, Assyrian, and Babylonian epics. The Battle of Megiddo would be a kick-ass movie if done right. Megiddo is the place the battle. Not only did Egypt fight there in the 15th century, it fought again nearly 1,000 years later with the Assyrians against the Babylonians, Napoleon marched across the plain of Megiddo (purportedly commenting, "All the armies of the world could maneuver their forces on this vast plain"), and in World War I the Allies fought against the Ottoman Empire there.

Tel or Har Megiddo - meaning the mount of Megiddo - is even mentioned in the Bible prophecy, being the place where the Antichrist (who conquers Europe and most of the world by peaceful means before showing his true colors) and the new Roman empire battle against the nations of the East while Israel is caught up in the middle and persecuted by the Antichrist (seeing how World War II played out, I think even non-Christians can realize this isn't unrealistic). The name Har Megiddo was corrupted over the centuries in English, becoming the word "Armageddon".

I also want to see a movie about Alexander the Great's siege of Tyre. There's a lot that Alexander did in such a short span of time, conquering much of the known world, but conquering such a heavily fortified island city - one believed to be unconquerable, as Nebuchadnezzar and other powerful rulers had tried and failed - with a brilliant tactic typifies who Alexander was.

"300" was okay for what it was, and aside from the obvious over dramatization of the scenery, battles and enemies, it was in line with the account from Herodotus (who may have received exaggerated information about the numbers, but it was still a tiny few-thousand combined Spartan and other Greeks force versus a massive Persian invasion probably of around 100,000 or more). I wasn't expecting more than that from a comic book adaptation, and it was certainly a decent action movie.

The trailer for Rise of an Empire looks decent.
I'm guessing that's the naval Battle of Salamis if Artemisia and Xerxes are both in it? Leonidas' wife (Lena Headey, apparently Queen Gorgo) and her seem to be featured in this one. Xerxes still looks ridiculous. That's one of the things that was annoying about 300, so many shirtless dudes. It's not the fact that a bunch of ripped, sweaty guys were featured throughout the movie (not that I look forward to that kind of thing, anyway :D) that bothered me, but it makes no sense as in real life most of them would have had armor. Maybe not proper metal armor, but at least protective wear.

Nebuchadnezzar rules!

Probably will see this in theaters. I like 300 for what it is. Plus this has Eva Green (oh my fucking god is she gorgeous), and Sullivan Stapleton from Strike Back? WOOT.

Could be good. I've professed in other threads that I liked 300 but hate Zack Snyder...I think having a different director who seems to basically be copying the style of 300, but without the influence of Snyder's success (i.e. his movies keep getting worse, IMO)...that could work.

I'm surprised that the male cast is all unknowns. For a second during the trailer, I thought Sean William Scott was in there, and I was like FUCK YEAH, PUNCH THEIR FACES, GLATT! :awe:

But no, I guess that's the top-billed male, Sullivan somethingorother. One thing is for sure: there was a distant lack of epic beardage.

Ok, what's up with the guy that jumps 5 stories in slo-mo with the overhead sword swing hitting his enemy when he lands. Were these idiots superhuman in the comics or something? Total cheesewhiz, and I don't recall 300 having anything that ridiculous with a suspension of belief requirement.
