A friend of mine is putting together a new system and asked me for help but I've been so far out of the loop that I really don't know whats on the market right now in his price range.
His main thing is finding a crossfire capable motherboard that would have a processor upgrade path 6-8 months from now under $150-160. Anything thats left over after buying the board will be spent on ram, HDD, and a budget processor to hold him over. He's coming from a 1.6ghz P4, 512mb ram, and a Radeon 8500 AIW so anything at this point will be a huge upgrade.
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
90% gaming
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$300 for mobo, proc, ram, and HDD
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
USA
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
No brand loyalty
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Currently has bought a 750watt PSU(Powr PC&Cooling), case, and a Radeon 4850
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
I have not but I will proceed to do so at this time.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Stock for now, overclocking once a faster processor is installed(6months)
8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Within the month
