What would you guys recommend as a nice and useful (approximately priced around $300) hi tech gadget gift for christmas?

The NO's so far are: Digital Camera, DVD Player, Tivo, TV, Home Entertainment-anything ....
(He's got most of the above and just bought the same laptop I got so most PC upgrades are out of question too)

I was thinking of maybe buying a PDA ... maybe a nice PocketPC one with wireless build in.
But I know the guy likes his Palm m125 but rarely uses it because it is too big ... and the PcketPC ones are even bigger ...

Any suggestions?

I decided on a PDA with WiFi. Only which one?
The Dell Axim x3i sells for $304 ... are there any others for $300-$340?

if you're going with a pda i don't know how you could get anything besides a HP 19xx series...although they lack wireless :( (unless you buy a seperate device)

you could get a cheap camcorder...
vid card, hard drive, dvd burner...

it's 2am, i'm out of ideas

I would hate to receive a PDA...

Maybe a nice watch? New subwoofer?

Why does it have to be hi tech? How about a set of decent craftsman tools or something else manly? :p

naw ... should be gadgety and hi-tech.
He has a nice watch too.
Sorry, also on the Tivo and the mp3 player ... he works too much to watch any TV and he isn't into music.

Get Palm Zire 71 for $199 (OMAX FF Sale).
Should be a good upgrade from M125 and small enough.

I know you mentioned nothing HT related but maybe a nice universal remote or a wifi router for the laptop

Should be around $300 though ..... and a wifi router or remote for that much money is a waste of money.
Should be somethign really cool and useful.

I got an Axim x3i a couple weeks ago and love it. Paid 316 bucks (called and haggled them a bit, hehe). Should be around for about 320 now though. The built in Wifi is awsome, battery life is good etc etc. :)

Nice idea NutBucket :)

Also, i would hook him up with a contraption that opens and closes his patio blinds mechanically.. controlled by a remote(not sure if its cheap to do though)

I wan't to do that so bad... and i'm sure those high end audio/video audiophile stores may do stuff like that.

It's definitely useful !

It's possible to rig up a system that does that. I think the hardest part would be to turn on the motor when you want, and at what speed. Everything else is pretty easy.

Yep. The Axim looks really nice.
And Dell has it for $304 now.
How do you like it's form, seize and wheight?

I know the guy likes his Palm m125 because it is smaller than most PDAs, so I don't want to give him a brick.
(I always thought the iPAQs look very sleek but they are pretty big too aren't they?)

Do you think he would like this?
He has WiFi at work and at his home ....
