I am looking at building a budget PC.
I will allocate $300 to motherboard and CPU (was hoping for an i5), and another $50 to 8gb of memory.
I already have case, SSD, psu, gpu and harddrive.

Am I better off waiting a few months for ivybridge, or should I purchase an i5 now within my given budget?

Is there going to be any huge benefit of buying a haswell over ivybridge? I suppose future compatibilities, but anything else to watch for?

Thx

Yeah, basically you'll have opprotunity to upgrade in a year with Haswell. But right now, Newegg has excellent deals on CPU/mobo combos ($300 for a i5-3570K and a nice motherboard), which, in my opinion, is better.

I would wait for Haswell myself unless the need for a new rig was too great.

What is the PC use? How often do you upgrade? What GPU do you have? Overclocking?

In general Haswell is only expected to be a slight bump for most users in a PC environment. Gains in performance to power usage should be good for those looking for mobile solutions.

What are the specs of your current rig? That would help determine to see if upgrading now is worth it.
