i have 300 dollars in my pocket, which card should i buy?


ATI Radeon 9700 PRO?
Geforce FX5800 Ultra?
which one?


NOTE: (i have a geforce4 ti4400)
 
9700 Pro... just make sure you clean off the nVidia drivers before installing the ATI card or you'll have some problems.
 
why the 9700??

also, my friend is telling me that the difference between the geforce4 ti4400 (the one i have now) and the 9700 PRO is not much....is that true? is it worth buying it?
 
HUUUGE difference between the ti4400 and 9700 pro. The 9700 pro demolishes the ti4600 so would find a noticeable improvement over the ti4400.

Not the FX5800 Ultra unless you've got some ear plugs, my vote is for the 9700 Pro if those are the only choices.

Whyn't consider a 128mb radeon 9800 pro for $269 on Pricewatch?

The 9700 Pro because it's faster and quieter. The FX5800 Ultra's fan is amazingly loud... which of course wouldn't discourage me from buying it, cause that doesn't bother me... but the 9700 Pro is still a better choice because when you enable AA and AF it takes much less of a performance hit than the FX5800.

And your friend who told you there isn't much difference between a Ti4400 and a 9700 Pro is a complete moron and you shouldn't listen to anything else he has to say because chances are if he thinks a Ti4400 and a 9700 Pro are comparable in performance, he doesn't know a bit about anything else computer related either.
 
I agree with everyone else: 9700pro.

the fx5800 ultra is hardly competitive with the 9700. I know you only asked about these two cards, but I would recommend considering a 9800 also.
 
Also, you might want to look at some of the benchmarks here on anandtech. link Here's one of them. As you can see the 9700pro is well ahead of the fx5800 ultra. Also, it completely blows the ti4600 out of the water. And keep in mind the ti4600 is faster than the ti440 your friend was claiming can keep up with the 9700pro...
 
I am content with my Radeon 8500 Pro, 128 mb retail version.

I would suggest trying to find one of those for sale, and saving ~$180-$200 🙂

my cousin has a 9700 PRO, and he`s selling it to me for 250 bucks (its like new, this guys is like REALLY rich, he buys new stuff like every 2 weeks)

shuold i buy his 9700 pro?

9800np is the way to go for ~300$. if you are asking for which manufacture, it doesn't really matter much.
 
Well, I see Radeon 9700 Pros at Newegg for 292, so how is his return policy? Do you get all the original software that came with the card as well?

I'd agree with Stardust. The Radeon 9800 non-pro has more overclocking capabilities than the 9700 pro.
