Do I have to do anything to get my $600.?
Or will it just arrive and take me by surprise?
I'm skeptical. The government is going to send ME money? HaHaHa!

And for this year's first installment of the tax cut, the check will literally be in the mail.

Late this summer and into the fall, every single American who pays income taxes will receive a check. Single taxpayers will receive a check of $300. Single parents who are heads of households will receive a check of $500, and married couples will receive a check of $600.

It's "up to" whatever amount (single - $300, head of household - $500, married - $600). It will be reflected upon however much taxes you've paid. If you just started working someplace this summer, don't count on receiving a $300 check. You'll only get back a percentage based upon the lowered percentage rates.

Also, I wouldn't count on this to last. Reagan's didn't.

shif,

You are right about the taxcuts not lasting. But at least the top marginal tax rates have not gone back up to 79%. Hopefully we can keep inching them downward.
