It'd be a shame to let this slide quietly off the front page , so I'll bump it up.

It'll be closer to half a trillion before Bush leaves office. By then, I suspect, the Admin will simply declare victory and leave, no matter what reality exists at the time...

Military adventurism, corporate pork and faux taxcuts aren't really the problem, according to them, it's really SS that'll bankrupt the govt.... riiight....

Or maybe Bush is just promoting the kind of "Freedom" expressed in an old Janis Joplin song-

"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose..."

It is at least half a trillion now. There is "war premium" added to the cost of oil. Add than in and you are easily there. Then lost income to reservists etc.

Before the war, someone looking at the TCO was figuring at least a trillion, but he was using numbers that were too low at the time. It would have been cheaper to fully fund SS.

so what if iraq's output is now less than half than what it used to be. everybody knows by now they were trading oil for US dollars instead of food. and years from now their oil production will top 6 million barrels per day, and infinite years from now their oil production will top infinite oils per day, the administration promises!
