30.xxdrivers MUCH FASTER then new 40.xx NVIDIA

wow. I dumped my 40.xx drivers for the 30.xx drivers that came w/ my Ti 4200, and my FPS in UT 2003 went from 40-50 average to 60-70 average, never dropping below 50. Somtimes its even in the 100s when Im walking around. This is on a XP 2100+, Ti 4200 64MB, 256MB DDR on KT333.

I run at 1024x768 normal detail settings.

wow, im glad i did that.

yeah Nvidia's "great driver support" kinda bit the dust with some of the 40.xx's. keep trying different ones till you get the best performance.

I have a similar setup Superman9534 (AthlonXP 1900+, Ti 4200 128MB @ 4400 speed, 512MB DDR, KT333) and I have stayed with the 30.82 Detonators. My 3DMark2001 SE score is lower by several hundreds of points but my UT2003 performance is much better. Plus, my Comanche 4 benchmark is 3fps higher with them. Plus I can use coolbits to overclock my card higher than it already is with the 30.82 drivers. Coolbits was broken for me with the 41.09 set.

Maybe I'll see you on a UT2003 server sometime.

I had a similar thing with the Geforce 3 ti 500. The drivers that gave me the best 3dmark2001 scores by far were the 23.11's even though there were much later drivers out.

I have trouble finding a reliable benchmark... I've tried Ghost Recon, but the fps fluctuates so much even when I'm just standing there not moving. I don't have Unreal or Quake... and I don't really like them so I'm not gonna go buy them... can I download a demo version or a benchmark version or something for free?

Anything later than the 30.22 drivers I'm using now have given me problems. (I have a GF3 Ti200) Nothing major, mind you, but problems none the less. Last version I tried had problems not with my 3D games, but with an SNES emulator. Couldn't play it because the screen would flicker and flash so badly. Went back to the 30.xx drivers and haven't had a problem since.

Same here. Except that my monitor just shuts off (power light turns orange) when it hits windows during startup. The old drivers work just fine. I have a Gainward ti4600.

mine does the same thing and I have a gf3ti500, does it do it again when you start windvd?

the most annoying thing ever is the newest dets have tv out enabled with no option to disable it, so dvd playback software won't run unless you rip it to hard disk first 🙁

No it doesn't. Only during startup. Are using a P4s333?

Detonator 30.82 is the set I prefer the most. Don't use those drivers (my linkage) unless you are running Win2K or WinXP though. If you are running Win9x/Me try these drivers, Detonator 30.82, instead.
