Do you mean z-560's? or did you get the deal of the century for 680's? I would look around and see if the z-640 deal is still going on anywhere...you can get the z-640's for 40 bucks...I did and I'm very happy with them.

It really isn't about price necessarily. You can find multu-hundred dollar pieces of crap, or $50 gems. You also don't mention what $60 speakers you are trying to compare to the $30 Altec-Lansings. That makes it tough for us to help out with any reliability...

there never was a brand to compare to. i guess im looking for a cheap i price large in sound upgrade that will make one say dang, like these 2.1 did over desktop speakers

Yeah, as EeyoreX said, price is not indicative of quality with speakers.

I love my BA4800s that I got two years ago. They were over a $100 less than the Klipsch's that everybody loved, but I think the clarity of these speakers are fabulous, and they are (were) a much better buy than the boom boom of the Klipsch's.

Which brings me to another point: It also depends on what you intend to use the speakers for. The Logitech's and Klipsch's are great for games because of their powerful bass, while BA's and (from what I've read) Monsoon's are better for music because of their sound quality.

All that said, I picked up a set of Logitech Z-340s earlier this year for a spare PC, and it's a great buy for under $50. Still not better than my BA's, but then those cost almost 4 times more than the $35 I paid for the Z-340s. 🙂

I agree with karmasalad, Gaming sound and Accurate sound for accurate reproduction of Music are not the same thing. It's nice with some of the games to have bass that is a bit overstated but with Listening to music you don't want all music to go Boom Boom. The Logitech all have a bit too much bass for really accurate music even with the Bass Level turned all the way down but they sure sound nice with Games though! I have the Cheap Z-340s and for the price they are nice but the bass is a bit much with music sometimes. I also agree that price alone does not tell the story of what is really best. It can but not always does. I would think that the Logitech above the Z-340s should sound better than your Altecs as I have a friend with them and they to me at least are a bit weak in the bass where the Logitechs have too much BASS!! Overall though I would rather have the Logitech's over your Altecs. I have not gotten to hear the BA's in a long time but knowing Bostons the way I do from their old Hi Fi days I would believe they are for MUSIC more accurate than the Logitechs.

It all depends on what you want. If you are mainly into Gaming and want STRONG bass in your games then the Logitechs are the speakers to get.

Hope this helps a bit. Tried anyway! 😀

I am really an Audiophile so usually look for Accuracy in Music Reproduction over what they sould like with games and if I want real accuracy when dealing with music on my computer I usually pipe the Line out of my soundcard through the front room Stereo with a Sub and JBL Studio Monitors.
