I have seen some 30 to 32" monitors in the $1200 to $1600 price range. This monitor would be used for gaming, watching DVDs & some TV. The only reviews I've seen are for the new Dell 30" monitor which is a little out of my price range.

You might want to wander over to the video forum, there's a sticky there about LCDs which should give you some more info.

My $0.02: In that price range you're looking at (relativly) low resolution screens with larger pixels than the dell 30". Which means you have to sit further away from the screen to use it. Not really practical for desktop use (imo) but so very nice for movies.

There are LCD monitor and LCD monitor W/ TV Tuner

LCD Monitor are usually higher resolution, DVI, 2560x1600 - no TV tuner
LCD monitor with TV tuner are usually 1280x768; 1366 x 768 or slightly higher resolution

The Dell 3007FPW hasa resolution of 2560x1600 while the 30-32" "monitors" you are looking at for 1k-1.6k are probably LCD TVS with DVi input. The TVs most likely have a resolution of 1280x768 or 1366x768. Much lower and with a pixel so large, the image will be very pixelated when sitting at average monitor distance and text will be very big to be readable.

A 1080p tv(1920x1080) would work well but thsoe are also very expensive and the cheaper ones(Westinghouse has a $1400 1080p 37" tv) have lower color and picture quiality compared to the better 1080p monitors and they still cant matchthe dell 3007FPW in image quality. You generally get what you pay for(except for apple and sony products which carry a markup over similar quality products because they carry a "premium" brabd name.)

You do understand that you would need some significant power to drive those higher resolutions in gaming? When I bought my Westy 1080p in December (hey, I even paid the quoted price) I had a 19" Viewsonic LCD which I never ran again (but my mom loves it now). Watch Hot Deals, Dell runs specials all the time (well, you have to be quick cause the EBayers scarf them up quickly). My suggestion for anyone wanting a large flat panel is figure what you want and what you want to pay then wait out the price. It seems the price point has plateaued for now (though I'm not following it like I used to) but you'll eventually get what you want at the price you want to pay, assuming it's not $0 for an infinity-inch 10^10x9/16x10^10 resolution with a google-plex contrast ratio.
