30$ Sero Plans are dead? What now?

So I heard the Sero plans are now the SEP (Simply Everything Plan) as of today, which changed the basic SERO plan from 30$ to 60$ / month.

So does that mean those on the old SERO plans are grandfathered and the only way to get a new phone (subsidized) is to resign at the higher SEP rates?

So how would we go about upgrading our phones without signing a new contract? Even in the Instinct Thread , the OP had to sign a new contract when he purchased his phone through CL.

No, we are grandfathered in. This will be the case until you change phones, and even then you might be able continue with your sero plan. Sucks for everyone who missed out on it though. For all the griping people have with Sprint, I've had nothing but great service since I first signed up over 2 years ago. I recently upgraded from my old Samsung A900, which in it's own right was a very brilliant little phone, to a HTC Mogul and in the process reupped for another 2 years. Look at the way plans are going up and inflation in general the 2 year contract is looking like a great thing for once. My only concern would be if sprint got bought up by AT&T or some other provider that doesn't use EVDO and the money I invested in this PPC will be all for naught.

I honestly cant see a GSM carrier buying a CDMA carrier. Management of two completely autonomous, non-integrateable networks would be a nightmare...*shrug*

So if I bought a new sprint branded phone and activated in while on the SERO plan they would automatically bump me off of the plan? I have a crappy phone and have been thinking of picking up a phone on ebay and using it on my SERO plan, but I don't want to lose the plan if that's what will happen.

I don't think you would have to worry about activating a different phone on your same account, its just that if you "upgrade" (as in buy a new phone subsidized by sprint) they make you sing/extend your contract. As long as your phone is purchased through some 3rd party you should be fine. On a related side note, I have a Samsung A900 that is in pretty solid shape (2 years of use, very well taken care of) that is just collecting dust here.

i don't think we have anything to worry about. I am betting they will let you stay on SERO for as long as you want for the foreseeable future. The way Sprint is bleeding customers I don't they they want to risk making you switch to a full prices plan and lose you to another competitor. They need to keep as many people as they can at whatever price point they can. Myself when my contract is up I am switching to a Verizon family plan. SERO is nice but for two plans I can get an Verizon deal for similar money with much better coverage in my area(mainly due to the alltel buyout)

To add to this...if you get your new phone you can activate yourself online. Doesnt change your plan at all. I switch between phones every couple of months.
