I have a sony vaio PCV-R547DS and I have been having some rather bothersome problems. Occasionally i will have programs freeze (mainly DSL EnterNet connection), the thing is they freeze for about 30 seconds to 1 minute then unfreeze and are fine. Some other goblins this has include when restarting occasionally it will adjust screen resolution and color number, turn down wav volume to none, and once it even deleted drivers for the TNT2 video card. These are some pesky little goblins inside this box! This has been happening for a while and is really starting to bug me. I have considered backing up programs and formatting and using the recovery cd. Will this help, or does anyone have suggestions? Come to think of it these might have started right after we got an ethernet card for my DSL service. Any ideas anyone?

the 30sec delay when using your dsl-thingy might have something to do with it trying to find something that isn't there. DNS number?

That's all I can think of now

Personally I think this is a win98SE problem..I have the same things.... :(
With 98 regular no problems at all.......try SE and all hell breaks loose... ;(

btw it's only generally programs that are used via the internet that are a problem....could be a common error somewhere?
I have probs with Gamespy, Enternet, ICQ (major league virus in disguise), Pal Talk, Dwyco.....basically anything that works online.......... :(
Off line almost zero problems...if I go back to 98 regular nowhere near as many problems...but not 100% troublefree - but it feels like it by comparision...

See i really have the problems with EnterNet300 which is the program i use to connect to DSL. Other then that i occasionally have a spat with icq but rarely much besides that. Hmm... do you think reformatting and using the recovery cd would help at all?

It's really weird I had installed 98SE on the same system but different HD and zero problems..my current HD is a new IBM deskstar 7200rpm - same problems as on my Seagate 7200 rpm...but no problems on my Seagate 5400 rpm - apart from that the system is exactly the same.....do a search about this I've posted before...seems to be a split camp for 98SE some think it's great ....some think it's terrible.... :(
I'll be going back to 98 very soon.. the trouble is it's not consistent - just seems to give trouble when it feels like it.. :(
