30" Monitor recommendations..

Is there any consensus out there? It looks like it WAS the Dell U3011, but that seems to no longer exist. The reviews of the 3014 while good, have some bad mixed in making me question such a purchase.

Preferably, i'd like a 16:10, not 16:9. Haven't seen a 21:9 in person yet so i'm unsure of how I feel about those to be honest.

Usage would be basic internet/office, Design work - CAD/Animation, and Gaming, but not hardcore gaming. I also plan on powering it with an 880 so I'd be doing both at the same time, so I've got time.

Any feedback/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

But another factor that is very important, maybe you also can consider it, is heat/power consumption.

I see some good 30" deals, but they are always the fluorescent (CCFL) backlit versions, that create heat and use like 150 watts, like slow roasting your face. So far, I can't find any good deals on 30" monitors that use LED backlighting, which would use like 60 watts.

I'm particularly sensitive to heat because the new room I'm using is awfully warm already, although I wouldn't have normally cared before when I was in a well ventilated/cooled room, unlike now.

Anyway, I think my top candidate is the Monoprice LED display in the link below, which seems to have a good price, but I think it's just a rebranded Korean display (the stand seems to match one of the Korean displays)? Even korean ebay prices don't seem much lower than Monoprice for 30" LED backlight monitors. I have no idea how these would perform in gaming, I just can't find good reviews on the 30" LED displays. But I suspect that any display that has its own scalar (as indicated by the presence of other types of input ports, like displayport/VGA/HDMI) would be worse at gaming, compared to trying to find a 30" that is limited to only supporting a dual-link DVI input, but I'm not sure that's the case.

I've been using a 30" Dell 3008WFP for years and have never been bothered by the heat. My apartment is really hot especially this summer and the display is certainly a non-issue. If I hold my hand to the screen I can feel it is warm. You couldn't burn your hands even if you held them to the display for days.

Power consumption is a valid point but at least to me not even on the list when deciding on a display. LEDs have their own pros and cons of course.

A scaler isn't necessarily worse. I find the one on mine gives me much better image quality than GPU scaling. I don't know how much it affects input lag as it can't really be disabled but I'm not super sensitive to it anyway.
 
I have had a 3007, 3x3011's and a 3014. The 3014 is definately the best gaming screen with obviously better input lag and faster screen with the best ag coating out of the 3. The only thing I dislike about the 3014 vs. the 3011 is the pixel overshoot. Very apparent while scrolling and dragging text around the screen. I don't see it while gaming which is something I do a lot of on my PC.

With all that said... I would recommend you check out the lg 34um95. Just got one and it is absolutely jaw droppingly gorgeous
 
Same lol. But the z30i is newer and has usb 3
 
The HP is probably the best choice. I've read a lot of complaints about the 3014 and various issues with the panel. The big one that sticks out in my mind is something to do with seeing a 'grid' on the panel. But the 3014 may be an excellent choice now as well as Dell keeps updating their Ultrasharp models with new revisions correcting flaws.

I've come across the HP's and the LG so far. Hadn't really looked at the monoprice but I'll look at it now.

It'd be nice if a local store stocked all 3-4 of them. Sadly, the only option here would be Best Buy and I don't they have all 3 in stock and on display. I just don't see 30" being that big a market at the moment. Makes word of mouth and reviews all that more important!

My dell u3014 is a rev. 03 and the only issue I have is pixel overshoot. I don't have the grid thing going on or anything that others were bitching about.

Also, I imagine some people would never notice the pixel overshoot...
