It's called the last mile problem. The backbones are plenty fast, and the capability to provide these services are there, but the actual links to every house out there are just not there. There is so much land to cover in the US.
 
This info is driving my anticipation through the roof. I'm using verizon dsl now in CA, and I can't wait till this comes to my area!! I just signed up to be contacted by verizon the moment it comes to my area 🙂
 
Ironic that my internal network connection (100mbit) is slower than my external connection (OC-12 = 650+mbit). I'm sure the university uses up a lot of it for research stuff though
 
SON Fiber is being rolled out by the end of the year in TX where I moved away from earlier this year LOL that sucks.
 
I am not sure what the theoriatical limit was, but i was getting constant 8-12MB/s when i was at home... cant wait to go back 😀 mass dvd burnage here i come!

Grapevine, Lewisville, and Plano will have it by the end of the year or early next year. Keller has it now, their the fist test area.
 
I for one am willing to live with my cable given the difference in population density between the US & some of the other places with insane internet connectivity.

I'd take FIOS in a heartbeat though.
