I got mine delivered for $162 I think after $40 coupon off $200 and then mailed in the $50 rebate for the controller. Good deal except for the fact that it won't work with my Soyo 6BA=IV. Maxtor and Promise are clueless to the reason except for blaming the Hipoint controller.

Anyway, this is yeah for the $40 coupon that worked.

Thanks....I really don't know what I'm gonna do with the ATA100 card, I bought it out of guilt...at least they're made money off the card 'cus I'm sure they lost a bundle on the drives.

I just tried to get staples to PM this and they said that bestbuy has a different model #. I called and confirmed it:

Best buy: ST0151500U
Staples: ST0153000U

So they would not do a price match for me.

Hah, my CSR asked me where I wanted to PM to and when I said Best Buy... She said OK I did this already today so I don't really feel like calling again, the price is $109.97 correct? Then when my coupon code had expired, she waited while I looked through a list on my computer. Don't you love nice CSRs?

yah it really depends on the csr. The lady I spoke with did the same thing - waited while I looked through a list for a good coupon code. Got the 30G pricematched to Best Buy's 109.97. Whole deal came out to 85.xx. Sweet.

Freakin a-holes:(, I guess all the CSRs got the heads up on this now, called three times and got shut down each time. Only one even asked for the phone # to check the store. Maybe have better luck with the next shift of CSRs??

And to think that I was going to get the 20GB 5400 for $70...

spoke to 2 different CSRs, 1 already knew about it and the other one let me do it, so don't say it can't be done. Seems that the ONE last maxtor left in NY BBs is in Middletown (845-692-7553)-- call before they sell it.

Shoot, I couldn't get this either. I only tried one time, a bit earlier, and the CSR I talked to was more than ready for me -- I was so discouraged I didn't bother trying again :) She said right away she's taken over 10 calls today for this, and the model number doesn't match. She's a professional and generally has a nice demeanor, but I can guess that she's had to deal with confrontations before my call, so when I asked her what's going on, she blurted out "so you're calling me a liar?!". I told her it's my first time calling and I don't know what's been going on, and she toned it down (plus I was very nice, too, heh heh).

What I don't get is that Best Buy's website carries the SAME model # (ST0153000U) as Staples, but carries the old price of $159.99. And the Best Buy B&M stores I called confirmed the price of the HDD they carry used to be $159.99 but was recently lowered to $109.97 (due to the CC price match, as the original poster said). I thought it was natural to assume that this would be the same model. But now it seems the model # carried by the B&M stores are different??

Another thing is, all these model numbers don't match the model numbers given on Maxtor's website at all! What's the deal?

ADDITION: Oh, and just as an FYI I asked her if I would be getting the same answer no matter what CSR I talked to, and she said yeah, I should be. She said she's working out of the Canada call center but they've all been trained on the Staples price match policy and such and even other CSR's at the other call centers (she mentioned Kentucky) should behave the same...

ST0153000U <----this is not a model number, it's a "kit" number, the model number for this kit ( at least the one I bought) is 53073H4...hope this helps......lol,

It worked for me, but it was not easy. The first problem was my zip code was not in their computer correctly. She thought I was in Florida instead of Houston. (How does that happen?) She found the drive at the 3nd best buy she tried. Then I told her that I wanted to order 2 of them and she got real upset because she said she had to reverify the store had at least 2 in stock. However, she was apparently embarressed when she called the first time beause she had to tell them she was in kentuckey and didn't want to call that store back. So we tried 8 other stores and had no success with any of them. Most of them had some problem with their phone system, no doubt from the onslaught of pricematch calls. Finally she gave up and talked to her boss who agreed to give me the 2nd pricematch. Plus she asked me where I'd gotten the coupons and I decided to lie since I didn't want to blow the whole deal. I ended up getting 2 for $86.37 but now I'm tainted by my lie forever. And the memory of a very odd CSR.

Got this today at my local staples. I had purchased the 20gb for $70 a couple of nights ago. Took that one back, and swapped it for this one. :) When I was walking out, I noticed that the instore ad for this week (ended today) had an offer that if you purchased this drive, you got a 32mb PC100 DIMM free on the spot (no nasty rebates). Went back in, got them to give me that for a cheapo system I am building. Very nice deal overall.

Eyez, if you want to get rid of the card, let me know.

Lying piece of *%@#$%^! Since I needed to buy some printer supplies, I decided to drop by a local Best Buy here in Houston to check on the Maxtor HDD. Got there right before they closed, they had like 3-4 on the shelf for $109.97, I bought one, guess what's printed on the receipt? Yep, ST0153000U. So I checked the actual box, guess what's printed on the box label? Yep, ST0153000U.

So I called Staples again with proof of receipt in hand ready to give them a piece of my mind :) This time I got put on hold for quite awhile (I guess there're A LOT of calls tonight), and I got a male CSR. He of course also knew about this deal, BUT he's been okaying them the whole day, and he doesn't know why on earth some of the other CSR's been turning them down. He said he had checked with Best Buy the first time around and everything had checked out. He even consulted his supervisor when he heard of what the other CSR's been doing, and his supervisor also didn't know why because he's been telling everyone to OK the deal. So I didn't even need to fax him my Best Buy receipt or anything and he didn't even call Best Buy. Like some others here, the first coupon code I gave him expired so he waited 'till I got another one.

I think part of this whole mess is also Best Buy's fault. I've a feeling that after they found out what's going on they started to give the different kit number to whoever calls with price checks. Also, the couple of Best Buy stores I had called earlier to check on stock availability had told me right away they didn't have any in stock, but on one store I had asked a couple more questions (like what time do you close, when do you think you'll get more in stock, etc), then out of the blue he said "oh wait, yeah, we got 1 left in stock" 'cuz he probably figured out I'm not from Staples. THIS is the store I went to buy the HDD from, and like I said, they had 3-4 lying on the shelf :)

darth_beavis, I didn't know you could order 2 in the same phone call and have the coupon code applied twice, once for each item?? I'm even afraid to call and order again because I'm thinking I would have to use another credit card account that has a different address or else they wouldn't let me use the coupon again...

And the only one listed on Bestbuy.com is the ST0153000U:| and since they let you pickup in the store, how likely is it that they have two models of the same size hard drive from the same manufacturer, and just list one on their site. Me smells something skanky here, the least they could do is call to check the model #s since at least some of the stores have the right model, but I guess the only thing they teach them in CSR school is lie lie lie

st63z: I used 2 different coupons, both were 30 off 100. I think techbargains had both listed and I think slickdeals had a bunch of 25 off 100 as well if you are really planning on stocking up.

I did both on the same phone call because I was lazy and didn't want to call back. However it ended up being just as much trouble if not more. She even made me reverify my credit card address and all that. I much prefered the CSR I got when I PMed my RAM.

Nah, I wanted to buy two for myself, but now my friend wants me to buy one for him. I'm not even gonna try getting three (so I can get a second one) 'cuz it's just too problematic and headache-inducing. My friend had tried one of these price matching deals in the past and got busted down cold, so now he's got like a phobia against it or something. I try to tell him I've just recently done this myself and I'm far from being persuasive on the phone (or in any argument for that matter) he he.

Hmm, so you're saying you were allowed to stack two different coupons for the SAME order? Nice CSR! Then again, she did make you wait through calling like 8-9 Best Buys :)

EDIT: Whoops, I didn't catch the edit to your post.

All depends on the who you talk to, more precisely, the CSR you talk to. The woman I spoke with on Sat. evening was more than willing to pricematch Best Buy even though I don't live near one. She said she'd had someone call earlier in the day to get the same price and she didn't have to verify it with BB. At ~$87 for a 7200rpm 30gb drive, I'm a happy man.

Sale $109 price should have ended after Saturday as new sale period started Sunday.
