Wild guess but I think Bethesda locking it to 30 probably means they were unwilling to spend additional resources (for whatever reasons) to squash any physics engine, AI, etc bugs at 60 fps for this game when they know they can deliver a relatively bug free game at 30 fps and still make money off it.

This is just game devs being complete idiots, modders will remove the limits on the PC if the game is good enough to warrant modding. If you buy the games on a locked platform like the Xbone then it's your own fault for being dumb.

Get a PC, mod it, play it however you like.

I found these video's which display the difference between 30 and 60 fps.
I still don't think I can see the difference, I would probably have to focus really hard on each one.
To me it's like night & day, especially when moving fast, strafing or rapidly changing direction. Even in isometric RPG's, eg, Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights or Torchlight, 60fps is much more fluid. In fact, even your avatar name (Hexen, along with Doom & Heretic) still all look better at 60fps vs 30fps in the Doomsday Engine. I find most racing games virtually unplayable at 30fps. About the only genre of games where I don't notice is 2D puzzlers (mostly where fixed animations / sprites limit it). I guess some people are more sensitive to it than others.

As for 30 vs 60fps in general, good Lord I remember 16-bit arcade machines & consoles with CPU speeds measured in double-digits MHz being capable of producing more frames (50/60Hz PAL/NTSC) on 1 core than today's 64-bit 8-core "advanced" gaming consoles. D: That truly redefines the word "pitiful"...

I think it more redefines the word "greed." They're basically trying to play a ruse on their consumers. Seeing what corners they can cut to still turn a profit on the consoles right away and at the same time sell it like it's cutting edge.

Now Ubisoft has said some more properly stupid things which blatantly aren't true:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ack-at-assassins-creed-unity-downgrade-claims

that it had been capped at the same technical level on both consoles "to avoid debates and stuff" - had been "misinterpreted".

"Let's be clear up front: Ubisoft does not constrain its games," added Gary Steinman, Ubisoft senior communications manager. "We would not limit a game's resolution. And we would never do anything to intentionally diminish anything we've produced or developed."

"We know a lot of gamers consider 1080p with 60 frames per second to be the gold standard, especially on the new generation of consoles," Pontbriand concluded. "We realise we had also pushed for 1080p in some of our previous games, including AC4 [which was bumped from 900p to 1080p on PS4 via a post-launch patch]."

No I consider 1080p at 60hz the MINIMUM standard. Yeah the consoles are rubbish but artificially constraining the PC for no good reason other than doing exactly what you say you aren't doing.....why that is false advertising and blatantly untrue.

"But we made the right decision to focus our resources on delivering the best gameplay experience, and resolution is just one factor. There is a real cost to all those NPCs, to all the details in the city, to all the systems working together, and to the seamless co-op gameplay. We wanted to be absolutely uncompromising when it comes to the overall gameplay experience. Those additional pixels could only come at a cost to the gameplay."

Based on the amount of flak you are getting for it I think not.

These idiots are going to keep digging by the looks of things. Admit you were wrong, backtrack completely, fix the games and stop lying, it really is that simple.

I dare Ubisoft to put out the division at 30 fps, I want to see that company go under and I think putting out a tonne of terrible console ports locked for no good reason is a great way to start hammering those nails into the coffin.

I think a lot of these larger publishers are realizing the money for mainstream / popular games is in consoles. It's not worth the effort for them to spend extra $ optimizing for the PC - it's a lot easier to just lock the game at 30 fps and do a 95% console port to the PC.

Look at Fifa 2015: It sold more than 5 million copies, but only 30K on the PC. Even if we triple that by counting digital, that's immaterial sales for a developer/publisher.

With Crytek on life support, there are literally a handful of developers left now who will push the graphics on the PC. Look at Far Cry 4 - there isn't a sign in that game of anything next generation. Gameplay and graphics looks current gen. All these games, Evil Within, Crew, Watch Dogs, all half-assed PC ports.

Sports games never sell well on PC. Sports games sell better to the 'Dude Bro' crowd, not to people who can tell the difference between their anus and mole hills in the back yard.

Ubisoft is talking about the console version. They are getting paid by Sony and Microsoft to advertise those games for them.
On the PC this game will support 60FPS+ and more graphic features.

Yes but these statements are untrue in relation to the news about the crew and the division, both of which are being artificially capped to 30 fps. Ubisoft says it never does that, but it is doing exactly that. They might not do it in AC:Unity but they are doing it in two other games, its simply a false statement unless they are saying they aren't artificially limited AC, after making a statement that said they were.

I really don't think simply tripling the piddly retail sales is adequate to represent digital downloads for PC games. While consoles still have a healthy retail market, most PC gamers tend to just buy digital because (a) we've gotten used to sales (b) retailers pretty much forced us to by scaling back on PC game shelf space. The only PC games that I ever buy at retail are collector's editions.

^ that (Since Steam doesn't release #'s), and game types play a role to a larger degree than people give credit for. I wouldn't play FIFA on a PC. I'd play it on a console. I'd play <enter FPS here> on a PC, not a console, etc.

I think you are also going to find that while many more games are going to come to PC that normally wouldn't, they know just as we know, that modders will probably make all the tweaks/fixes, so why should they waste time/resources up front?

IMO, the examples on that site aren't very good because of the crappy video quality, combined with the fact that most of those games have motion blur that makes it harder to tell the difference.

I went 11/11 on that site a week ago *shrug*.

Saying 30fps offer better experience than 60 fps is a pile of bs. IMO, a gameplay smoothness is always a priority over eye candy. I remember playing Battle Arena Toshinen 3 on the psx there is a normal mode and a 60 fps mode that have less texture. The smoothness of the 60fps is just above and beyond that 30 fps can do.
