I remember when they were shooting this in Barrow... I think.

It was right before I moved. People up there were having fun with it.

I don't know about 2 thumbs up. It was definitely a decent movie though. I can justify spending the money to see it.

I remember the comic being hugely popular when it came out. The trailers make it look like just any other action movie.

Is it at all like 28 days later?

uh no, it's a gangster movie, not a zombie movie.

Gangsters of zombies maybe....

Gangsters of vampire werewolf zombies?

Vampires suck.

Why yes, yes they do.
So it's a movie about Vampire Porn Stars?

I thought it was pretty good, but there's problems with it like pretty much every other horror movie.

Like how the road to the power plant thing was plowed, even though it's been a month with blizzards...

I thought the majority of the story was pretty good...for the most part it had the feel of a comic book... I thought it was an awesome movie and usually I dont care to watch horror movies

I haven't read the comic, but I thought the movie looked pretty cool from the previews. (Except that "no god" line, that seemed kind of stupid) And the lead vampire looks like he was well cast.

I did read a review that said an important element from the comic was missing, that being a fight within the vampire ranks. Some of them were afraid of the backlash that their all out onslaught would bring I guess.

I'm going to see it next week I think.

it was decent, but if you pay for more than a matinee ticket, you'll probably be a bit disappointed.

(btw, you probably have the most (only?) amusing sig on ATOT)

********** The following post may contain SPOILERS! ************

Well, I watched this last night, plans didn't work out last week.

There were some plot holes, like the roads being plowed and I don't understand why that utility building at the end had electricity? But honestly, I really liked this movie a lot despite its flaws.

It was more gory then I expected, particularly since the only sure fire way to kill the vampires seems to be decapitation.

I loved the vampire design. They wisely ignored/dumped the stupid myths of garlic and the like...focusing only on the sunlight weakness. Their design was simple but ghoulish. These aren't the sauve dracula vampires. They spend most of their time covered in gore and are almost zombie like in their habits.

Skoorb asked if it was at all like 28 days later...after thinking about it, it sort of was. The elements of hiding and a handful of survivors and gross cannibals were there. Of course the vampires have intelligence.

The stupid plot holes were annoying...the roads DID appear to be plowed after several blizzards. A guy blew himself up with TNT and was still alive (if anyone remembers the end of mimic where the guy sparks an explosion that destroys all the bugs but is some how blown clear...its like that but on a lesser scale of stupidity) and the ending was marginally dumb since I really don't see how the self sacrifice of fartnett was even necessary. The woman didn't come out until AFTER he'd killed the lead vampire.

The most annoying detail was the seemingly unfinished "drifter" portion of the story. What was the deal with that guy? We can sort of assume the vampires were on that crappy boat that he was looking at in the beginning and he was apparently with them, since his teeth and gums showed signs of advanced scurvey.

Its unclear whether he did the vandalism or dog killings...since that stuff seemed to happen at night. He was apparently working for the vampires, but I have no idea why or even what purpose he served! If he didn't do the vandalism all he did was scare some already scared towns people. And what was his motivation for serving the vampires? He seemed to want to die, but had plenty of opportunities to kill himself that he didn't take. It would make more sense if the vampires had promised to turn him.

I agree, the guy blowing up the box of TNT ( or was it a box of flares?) and getting blown clear was pretty off....but I did like the ending where he turned himself but I agree, it ended up not being crucial to helping Stella.

I beleive the drifter was the guy who killed all the dogs, burned all the cellphones(was done during the daylight), and everything else. Basically he was there to prep the city for the vampires. I remember he told the head vampire that he "did everything they told him to do" I think they were supposed to bite him and turn him into a vampire in return for his help, but they killed him instead....

I saw it and enjoyed the movie. I thought the ending was pretty bad, though. He turned himself for no reason. He just had to wait for like another 30 minutes and it would've all been over. I think this thinking of mine could've been changed if they actually showed that she was in danger of getting burned.
