You only get sent to prison for a bid of a year or greater 99.9% of the time, he more than likely was just held at a local jail. This is assuming he is over 18 and was not sent to a youth detention center. Either way, you learn in the first 5 minutes it is the worst place you want to be.

He didn't go to jail, he was banned for a month. He spent the time in his mom's basement.
