Minor niggle: Star Control 2 itself isn't actually free, it's the open source Ur-Quan Masters port that is. It's only really relevant for copyright - TFB owns the Star Control IP but not the name, and UQM doesn't have permission to use the name.

Allegiance, man I loved that game. I was damn good at it in nearly everything but commanding was my fav thing to do. I loved the community games they held with extra large custom maps with like 8-12 teams or something.

Always wanted to give it a try but never downloaded it. Maybe some of the guy in the office would like to play.

I've just finished playing my first two hours of BattleForge, and I must say it's fun, and I did not expect that, it has a WarCraft III feel to it definitely, but it's not bad, not at all, I'm surprised it was made available for free, were the sales poor? I saw a good number of people on-line as I was completing the tutorial (which was very well done and very newbies-friendly, I got the hang of the game within the first five minutes), it doesn't look "dead" to me.

It's a small sleeper hit for me, late perhaps, but it's fun and to repeat myself I'm surprised to see such a nice little game being free, it's one of those cases where had I known it was that fun I would have paid for it instead, I feel strange playing a game like that for free, but I won't turn my back on such a generous offer, thanks again OP for pointing out at those free games, otherwise I would have never known about BattleForge.

I just a few missions on Battle Forge as well.
Considering its free this is an awesome game. But I played it on my low-end system and had to settle for the minimum detail settings.
Will copy to my power system later today.
