Wow... Bison are some pretty hardy animals. Would take more than a 9mm to drop one of them. Something along the lines of a high powered rifle or a shotgun. Both of which make alot of noise. How could he have killed 30 of them without someone noticing??

Several hundred acres of land is a lot of turf.

It's leaner and healthier than cow.

Why don't we farm bison then and only use cows for milk?

Depends. Buffalo doesn't make as good of a burger or a steak because you WANT fat in those for flavor and moisture. Buffalo is very lean and drys out very easily if overcooked.

Well ya know bison and buffalo are different. Has to deal w/ the horns, if they are seperate or connected, anywho, so would bison make better jerky?

I had a bison burger once, tasted the same to me.

I guess i could google this but I'm about to go home. Bison have seperate horns and water buffalo have one u-shaped horn (basically)? I also 'knew' only one species was native to the america's. Thought this 'other' one was imported, guess not. Still only one running around in N. America.

We've spent a lot of time in Park County Wyoming over the years. Not a densely populated area. Something like this could have gone unnoticed for days.

I really hope they catch the person(s) who are guilty of this and nail their nuts to a stump and push them off backwards...then, discuss legal punishments...

American Bison

"buffalo"

There are 2 subspecies, but they are all bison. Buffalo is an incorrect term often used.

I have to disagree. I've had both bison burger and steak and (when cooked well) both are better, in flavor and texture, than steer. You are definitely correct though - they are more prone to overcooking because of their leaner constitution.

 They are not related to water buffalo, which is the animal it was incorrectly compared to.

I enjoy bison burger, steaks, and roasts. I've eaten it most of my life, and in fact, I had a "buffalo burger" last night at Fuddruckers.

Yes, there IS a difference between the American Bison and water or cape buffalo. However, bison are considered the American Buffalo as compared to the rest of the species actually known as buffalo.(s)

He was probably thinning out their numbers to avoid overpopulation, they need to be killed or they will die.

I was correcting his thought that we had both buffalo and bison here running around the plains.
