If I have to put owners in statistical categories, you would go into "Enthusiast". All the Beamer owners I know personally are enthusiasts.
I'm actually not an enthusiast, but decided that after driving FWD Japanese sedans my entire life, it was time for a change. Call it a "mid-life crisis" if you will. ;)

I live outside of Toronto. There is nothing in my city, but there are a few in the next town over. With that said, I do require a courtesy vehicle and I have never found an indy shop that supplies one. With that said, I mentioned that I just haven't really spent the time looking for one either.
If you require a courtesy vehicle, that certainly factors into your cost/value model. And like I said, $10 extra per hour actually doesn't sound too bad (esp. if your dealership is willing to negotiate).

We both have MY2014 German cars, so the calculus is simple. Most of the depreciation hit has already come to pass. So as long as your car has reasonable repair costs for the foreseeable future, it makes good sense to keep driving it. (Maintenance should be predictable; it's based on a schedule and your driving habits.) Having tallied my TCO on Sunday, the grand total is a little uglier than expected but not out of line. Edmunds estimated all-in 4 year TCO to be $43k (so approx. double what I've experienced), albeit their standard is 15k miles per year. I would have never bought the car if I knew it would cost $43k to operate over 4 years. Edmunds estimates for repairs and maintenance costs are rather excessive.

My C63 is going in for the 30k service on Monday and it needs brakes front and rear. We will see what that ends up costing me.

AMG? If so, I would imagine a small bank loan should do it.

Any reason you are going to stealership for that?

Convenience. I drop it off on my way to work (it is literally less than 1/4 mile off the freeway) and they give me a loaner for however long it takes them to complete the work.

Yes, it is an AMG. All the C63/C63S models are AMG massaged.

Please let us know the cost. Those are massive brakes and I am curious.

I believe a brake job on an Audi RS 7 hovers in the $5k USD range

The BO service cost $1,636 (there is a whole bunch of stuff they do at the 30k mile service like replace the transmission fluid and rear diff fluid)
New brake pads front and rear plus new wear sensors $1k
New front brake rotors $543

Total cost for service $3,179 plus tax.

Nope, not I.

I work on this Over Engineered German Shit every day. I damn sure don't want any part of it when I'm off. Give me a well made Japanese machine any day of the week.

Overly complex isn't a sign of well engineered.
someone around here had a sig with a nice swipe at german engineering. iirc it used a comparison between a german and american artillery piece, with the american having 1/3 of the parts.

It is the lords honest truth. On some of our automated washers a simple open or shut drain plug that could be opened with an air cylinder. Did they use an air cylinder? Nope they used a Stepping motor and Drive Controller that has to be programmed in order to work. Expensive and complicated to replace or repair when it goes out. An air cylinder is cheap, quick and stands up to the environment much better.

Good thing you don't have the S. IIRC, MB charges 4x as much for the front rotors on that trim for your year range.

I know, I've heard it is $2000 just for a set of front rotors on the C63S and if you checked the carbon ceramic brake option on your build you can expect it to cost a few thousand dollars for a front brake job.
