That was my first thought also, then found out the mother remove the mag, and then left it where the child could find it. WTF! This is beyond stupid.

I keep one pistol loaded but not racked, in a locked gun safe on the top shelf of a closet - with no other ammo anywhere in the house. Even if my 3-year-old could somehow get up there and somehow unlock the safe she still isn't strong enough to rack the slide. And I worry anyway. The idea that anyone could be so casual about it just blows my mind.
