3 x Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD

I'm sure the Matrox Parhelia can handle it. I'd be surprised if a four-port Quadro2 NVS couldn't handle it, too.

I was looking into the Parhelia for my current setup. A buddy of mine had it on 3 x 19" CRT's back in the day and it seemed solid. I am just worried because the Res. is much higher on these...

Edit: Well not too much... His were 3 x 1600x1200

Since 1900x1200 does not require dual link I would assume it'd be OK.
But the Matrox website sucks ass.

Give 2 of them to me and I will send you a single output ATI Rage Pro 4 MB. Problem solved. 😉

Spending $3000 on LCDs make a whole lot more sense than spending $3000 on your computer - at least the LCDs are going to be usable for the next five years, whereas your computer will have seen at least a couple replacements.

I would advocate waiting for the 2407FPWs, since those will be HDCP-compatible for Vista, though.

When will the 2407FPWs be available? Is the difference between them and the 2405 pretty much just HD compatibility? I might wait a bit before getting a 2405 since they should come down in price?

Cheers.

The HDCP is for hi-def video playback. without it wont be able to watch HDCP protected next gen DVDs.

Though you could just get 1 2405 and a Sceptre® X37SV-Naga if you want a nicer video playback screen with HDCP support.

Depends on the refresh rate. Resolution is just one part of the bandwidth.

1900x1200*60=136.800000 MHz
1900x1200*75=171.000000 MHz

At 75 Hz, 1900x1200 surpasses the 165 MHz (assuming full compliance) single-link DVI spec. Some video cards can't manage the full 165 MHz even on single-link though.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/11/29/the_tft_connection/index.html

For example, the MSI FX 5700 Ultra-TD128 screeches by at just 141 MHz on single-link DVI.

Meh, I'm not concerned. First off, I don't believe the studios+Microsoft will obsolete every computer monitor currently in existence. Second, even if they do it will just be cracked like CSS was.

Meaning I'll get great monitors uber-cheap because they're not HDCP. Go for it, studios! Obtrusive encrpytion FTW!
