It is not my money it is your money. This is my first time getting redistributed wealth and I am just trying to make sure I am being poor correctly. From what I understand I am supposed to use it to buy booze, drugs or lottery tickets.
True. Redneck rich, YOLO but tax refunds come around every year.

Guy was telling me that his 42 y.o. son's 1st concern was upgrading his xbox. The guy is raising the 42 y.o.'s kid.

I'he been playing every time the lottery gets over $200 million for at least 10 years. If my math is correct, and I have no reason to question it, I'm virtually certain to win it all on Wednesday.

$450M is just starting to get near the point that winning would be worth it. I could probably scrape by on $250M after taxes. I wouldn't be super pleased but I could at least do a few fun things.

Lawyers do math other than calculating the percentage of their clients $$ they will get? Who knew?

$2 lets you daydream about it. It's fun. Roughly $200MM after fed/state tax. I could find ways to spend it.
Our state's lotto website lets you check your numbers against past drawings....goes back 10+ years. I buy auto-pick lotto tickets maybe 3x a year but I always check against past drawings. If I had played all those auto-picked number sets, every drawing, for over 10+ years....the most I'd have won was $10.

I was going to inquire to see if it would now be allowed here, but apparently the bigger snag is with Paypal.

I'll buy a ticket. I'll make sure to pay with a twenty. The entertainment value of the reaction of the person getting the quick pick for me is worth the $2 alone. "You're only getting one??!"

I know I asked before, but if I win, and since it's only February, does my win start the moment they draw the numbers? Or the moment I turn in the ticket? Can I jump up and down ecstatically, then move to a state that has less income tax? Move to a state with no tax on the lottery winnings? (besides the federal tax)? And flip off NY?

I'm no accountant, but I don't think it can be considered a gain until it's realized. Is the ticket a negotiable instrument once they confirm it? If not, then the gain probably doesn't happen until the funds are transferred.

I would take 10 million and buy everything I ever wanted, then invest/give away a bunch and save the rest for whenever.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding the state is the one paying you. Should you actually win they will take the tax out before they pay you.

If only the lame brain lottery winners were motivated enough to get together and hire lobbyists to change the rules so they don't have to pay taxes by making a case for being job creators, and if the state lottery commission would take the winners seriously with booze on their breath, cocaine residue on their nostrils and hookers waiting in the limo you might have a chance at skirting paying taxes on your winnings. In the meantime though I think you will have to deal with the fact that the taxes on lottery winnings are there to artificially inflate the jackpot dollar amount to drum up interest so that the states can collect more taxes from their mathematically challenged constituents.

too good at math to waste my money on the lottery
Perhaps the downside dilemma of rational reasoning, somewhat like an extinction-level asteroid event. Until then, lottery participation allows one to fantasize about the upside and downside aspects of a significant jackpot win, and the intrigue of the air-chamber bouncing-ball randomness.

I don't see any downside dilemma of rational reasoning or what that has to do with an extinction-level asteroid event. Can you expound on that?

Regarding the bolded I'm assuming you meant fantasize and intrigue.

In my opinion participation in the lottery by parting with your money is not required to fantasize what you would do if you won. Use of your imagination is free aside from what you spend for survival.

Why pay more in taxes than is required? If you want to play for free you can. Pick the numbers you think will win, write them down on a piece of paper and then watch the 'air-chamber bouncing ball randomness' with all the excitement and intrigue your imagination can muster. Most likely you won't get the numbers right but you can add one more level of excitement others who payed to play can't: You can condescendingly look down on them for losing their money and paying more in taxes for being bad at math the way ceiling cat condescendingly looks down on you when you masturbate, up to and including mental masturbation. Good day sir. *Drops mic*

And how horrible would you feel if those numbers actually came up? That is a worse thought that losing $2.

My biggest splurge would probably be leasing a private jet. I'd want to travel and it would be a joy to avoid the whole commercial airport experience.
I'd also have really good seats for Buckeye football games.

I wouldn't feel horrible at all.

How horrible would you feel if you could have won the lottery if you had played all of those times that you didn't?

Because that is essentially the same thing. Playing or not playing is a choice that you make. Every time you decide not to play you could have won. If you write down numbers and they come up you should not feel horrible because had you not played at all the outcome (not winning) would be exactly the same.

Many years ago a friend who used to regularly buy tickets didn't once....and on that drawing, she called out every number correctly before it was drawn.

Figures, huh. :p

I might spend 2 bucks for the powerball now. Meh.

What do you mean by "Figures, huh."?

It figures that would happen? I would not figure that would happen. The likelihood of that happening is so extremely small that I would figure the exact opposite would happen.

I've wasted more than $2 worth of time reading your shit posts.

Imagine how much you've wasted typing it.

Try reading your posts. Then you'll really have something to gripe about.

My posts make you think. Your posts are just negative nancy bellyaching over how you don't like what I post. If you don't like it don't read it. If you can debate it rationally (haha I almost typed that with a straight face) then do so, otherwise, go play the lottery, read about Kim Kardashian's booty, go play in the NEF thread or whatever it is the cognitively deficient do with their time these days.:p
