I'm ready!
Who's buying which edition?
I wanted to pre-order the boxed version but it looks Amazon is the only one offering it sofar so I'll probably order it off steam instead.

...And what's up with having to pay an extra $20 to get the elite units? Lame! How is that going to work online anyway? People with elite units won't be able to play those without?
Seems like a crappy way to divide up the community.

Ah well...I'm getting excited and it's going to be a blast. Most likely I'll be putting many hours into the single player game first.
Can't wait to try the 2 player campaign mode though.

I'll try to buy it retail, but I'm very tempted by the Steam version. I won't touch the multi-player for months, probably, like I did for the previous Total War games, I always end up playing dozens of unfinished campaigns off-line and tons of custom skirmishes or playing the historical battles, and of course trying modifications. In fact I couldn't care less about the multi-player in a Total War game, as surprising as it may seem, and I will never forget all the lag issues we've had during the Rome: Total War days, stupid GameSpy. Who's hosting on-line for Empire? Has it been confirmed? Is it SEGA themselves? If it's GameSpy I won't even bother.

Dang I can agree with everything you just said and even my gaming history and sentiments with Rome are the same.

As far as the multiplayer goes...I did enjoy Rome MP but yes it was a HUGE pain in the ass.
If only they would show us a simple ping it could have fixed so many of those issues.

Thought it was pushed back till March sometime.....

Also, this is the first I've heard that you need to pay extra for elite units. 🙁

Since it requires Steam anyways, I'm getting the steam version, like I did for Med2.

My information came right from the Sega Total war website.
It states that the boxed version is March 3rd and the Steam version is Feb 4th.
One would think it's accurate but who knows.

What's new in Empire Total War?

From the previous Total War? (Medieval 2)

- New graphics engine

- Naval battles

- AI modifications / gameplay refinements

- Napoleonic era!

The game actually looks good. And knowing Creative Assembly, the gameplay would be so addictive that 10 hours playing the game would seem like 2.

Don't forget the "Road to Independence" which is like a highly scripted campaign that will also be included.

Yeah, I'm pumped about this way more than Warhammer.

I bought the steam version when they were offering R:TW in addition, since I lost my R:TW disks. Hopefully its a fairly "polished" game.

Originally I wasn't too excited about this, but after re-reading Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey & Maturin series (they made the Master & Commander movie from these stories), I'm going to pick this up.

ONE thing really bothers me, though... I am worried about having the same type of silly (but incredibly annoying) bugs that were in Rome:TW, such as Naval units not gaining experience properly unless you modified some obscure modifier in an .ini file. I remember a long, long use-compiled list of necessary fixes that had to be done yourself.

Fortunately it ain't as bad as the amount of out-of-game work required to make Silent Hunter III all it really should be.

Are you kidding me? I thought it wasn't due until Spring. Damn, going to have to jack down settings.

Yeah I pretty much just built my new rig for this game.

Just looked and I'm still not seeing where it's going to be released in Feb, still says March on Steam.

Looks like the Elite package gets you 6 special units for.......$20!!!!!!

Errr, somehow as cool as it would be to have the HMS Victory, I just don't think that's worth it.

Scroll down and look on the right.

Indeed.

You will be able to play Empire: Total War from February 4 2009

Thanks Perry you just made my day

Edit 😕 Well if you look at the forums, the consensus is that Sega just never updated that particular page and the release date is still in early March.

Denial is your friend.

This is the first game I've preordered in years. Usually I wait at least untill a few reviews come out before buying.

I have that much faith that it will kick ass.

That's a stickler. I love unique units, but if I can justify $20 for 6 units... I'm going to have to reassess my priorities.

I wonder how long til the patch that fixes many of their bugs? I'm looking forward to this game but I'll probably wait a bit before buying because CA TW games usually come out quite buggy. Moreso than they should upon release. What excites me most really about this game is what the modding community will come up with. They tend to make the game more fun than CA themselves. I'd also prefer to avoid STEAM if at all possible.

Seeing that they tied even the boxed release version to steam, I'm going to have to hear that it's the second coming before I pay anything other than bargin bin price for it.

And this is the first I heard about some pay for elite unit stuff, which seems to make a purchase more likely to occur in the far future than anytime near.

Funny the varying views on the subject. I thought the bugs were perfect. They helped me make it through the single player game in less than a year with no cheats!😀
The mods...meh...didn't really think total realism was really all that realistic.

Listen, ETW gets released in March. They wanted to polish ETW and introduce a Multiplayer campaign. So I'm sorry, but it comes out March.

You are wrong and I'm not listening

NAAAA NAAA NAAAA(Hands over ears)

To be honest if they can delay it I will actually appreciate it, considering the past of Total War games upon release, the amounts of bugs they had out-of-the-box was almost humiliating for the buyers. If they can take that time to polish, add content and fix more stuff then I'm all for it (I'm not always in favor of delays, in fact I'm usually frustrated by delays, but for that one I wouldn't mind). I prefer getting a more stable and enjoyable game than getting it sooner and spending 50% of the time I should have played the game to instead constantly browse the Technical Support branch of their forums.
