2 reasons i don't bring my Giant roadbike to campus

1) I'd rather keep it in door (and the size of my apartment prevent me from doing this
2) Theft ( they will do anything to try and steal it if the bike is book enough)

Um... that is NOT a "really nice" bike. Anything made by Mongoose is a piece of crap, especially a dual suspension bike. I can't even fathom someone stealing that.

Next time get this lock: New York Fahgettaboudit

From what I've been hearing the crooks will have to steal the whole bike rack before they'll break this lock. Either way it'll stop casual and moderate theft.
And if it does get stolen due to them breaking the lock they'll pay up to $3500 to replace your bike. Course this doesn't work if they do something like take a cutting torch and cut through the bike rack or destroy whatever it's attached. Probably best to run the lock through the frame and the front tire.

My roommate in college had that lock... for a couple of weeks. Deadbolt cutters > chain.

Yeah, that would last all of 15 seconds under the attack of someone other than a crackhead looking for an easy way to his next fix.

yup, a 'sleeper" bike from craigslist. If you don't go off-road to and from school, ditch the mountain tires and stuff for something that performs on the street, yet is undesireable for the thieves.
