Not familiar with these jacks but Harbor Freight sells cheaply made Chinese junk tools from my experience. All I can say is if I'm under a car or something, I want to make sure the jacks I use are reliable...well made and strong. Personally I would not buy anything they sell but that is just my personal preference. 🙂

i dont know... a lot of the stuff you buy from sears or other places is chinese junk as well.

with things like these jackstands, as long as you buy them bigger then you need then i dont feel in danger. 6,000lbs- that could hold my entire tuck up when all it has to do is just one corner. i would use them without worry.

I bought a set of these to support my Jeep while I do repairs. Within several weeks I noticed one of them has a buckled leg, I immediately took it back to Harbor Freight and was told by the manager that these things are rated at 3 tons but they can bent even at 1 ton under a certain condition. Needless to say I did not want to risk my life under certain condition so I did not get a replacement. A report is being file at Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

Still feel safe?😉

Yeah on certain things its probably not a good idea to scrimp on. Helmets, parachutes, smoke alarms, condoms.

I like the screw type Jack stands. Those are pretty bullet proof.

I always use jackstands and keep the jack in place.

hmm... come to think of it my jack is from Harbor Freight too...
 
HF is Chinese (sometimes Taiwanese) made junk! I would never crawl under a car, truck or golf cart for that matter with a pair of $15 stands as protection. You on the other hand, go right ahead.

looks like the jack part itself might be rated for 3 tons, but the walls of the stands look pretty thin. hooray buckling! 😛
 
I own that $12 Digital Caliper. It's accurate to within 0.001" of a friend's $150 caliper, which is more accuracy than I'll ever need.
 
The thing to do is get the biggest and highest rated jack stands they make and use those. Then like stated above, leave the jack in place near area you are working on. I guess if both items fail your wife or parents are in for a nice check and you are in for a nice resting place in "fill in the blank" Gardens! 😱
 
An expensive jack stand won't keep you safe if you don't know how to use it properly, or know and don't do it, and that includes inspecting it for damage.

Using any jack stand on uneven or soft surfaces is crazy dangerous.

Much of HF is junk Chinese, worse India, better Taiwan, but nobody should buy anything there unless they know enough about the tool to decent if its suitable for their use. Many of the things are, or are from time to time as suppliers change, good quality, if not above average compared to other stores, but if you can't tell the difference, stay away. In fact, skip saving money buying tools and trying DIY, hire a professional and keep flippin burgers.
 
I have a Harbor Freight store about 15 miles from me, and use a lot of their stuff. I would not use their jacks or jack stands. However, I have a complete tool kit that I take camping, a couple of $30 cordless drills (They work great), a killer pancake portable air compressor that works well (Small enough to take on a roof for a nail gun) and a worm drive circular saw that is absolutely fantastic. I would not hesitate to buy almost anything from there. Just not the stuff that can kill you if it fails...
 
HF's alum racing jacks actually have higher reviews than Craftsman.

I have 7 year old HF steel jack (85lbs) that still works the same as it did when I bought it.
I have a 1 year old Alum racing jack from HF that also works well.

However... I've worked on cars with several friends and we've broken lots of HF hand tools. Ratchets, wrenches, etc.

My jack stands are old, and I have no idea what brand they are but they work great so I can't complain.
