Variable. Ice cream? There's no acceptable time except for the top of the pile. An almond? A week or more is fine.

Depends on stickiness and adhesion factor. An M&M, sure, no problem. Toast that lands butter and jelly side down no thanks.

I've used a dropped ice cube. Just rinsed it until I was satisfied enough of the surface had melted away.

Also, age, location, and blood alcohol level are factors in the decision process.

I would like to add another variable - whose floor? My floor is middle of the pack. Some of my friends floors - nasty to goddamned sterile.

Unfair comparison, since ice, like soap, is self cleaning. Well, ok, they both need water to "self" clean.

BAC is definitely a factor here.

I tend to eat anything except bread if it drops on the floor. If bread drops on the floor I will do a quick rinse with the sprayer at the sink then blot it with the hand towel hanging on the oven.

# of seconds on floor doesn't effect my decisions.

Depends which floor and what food.

If it is a piece of bacon it would have to fall somewhere pretty iffy to pass on :)
