Hello to everybody,
I am really confused... Can I use on-board video card together with an external one (HD5450) on P (or H) 67 based motherboards.
I do not care about gaming at all. All I need is lots of screen estate. And I do now want to get a secondary video card (don't care about SLI, all that stuff that makes one display out of multiple ones, etc.) I'm currently running Core2Duo E8500, previously mentioned VGA with 4GB Corsair PC2-6400 ram (2x2GB) on a Gigabyte G31M-2SL rev1.0 motherboard.
When I have several IDE's open (multiple instances of VS, eclipse, etc) the computer starts choking... I know that more ram would help, but I don't want to invest in this system any more... Plus, DDR2 ram costs are insane here in Denmark.
One more thing, I do sometimes need to do video encoding...
I am looking at Core i7 2600, P67 or H67 based motherboard (as I understand from googling/reading forums P67 disables intel's on board graphics, so that seems to be a big no no...
The thing is that I just need multiple monitors and some more computing power with an ability to add more RAM.
I'd like to reuse my HD5450 to drive two 24" WUXGA resolution screens and use onboard graphics to drive a 22" 1920x1080 screen. (This is also the way the whole thing is connected right now)
To sum up, can I have 3 screens on a HD5450 + MB's output? What brand MB would you suggest? What about RAM (is it worth getting 16GB?)
