I just ordered these NMB 3 pin fans to put in my Enermax Whisper PSU. After opening up the PSU, I noticed the fans inside are 2 pin. Which wires should I use to connect the fans?

You should call SVC and tell them to send you the right product before you sue them, that will insure they will be quick about it

it sounds like he intentionally ordered the 3-pin fans . . . usually the red & black ones are the ones you need to connect and yellow/blue/other color is the RPM sensing wire. i can double check when i get home from work tonight.

also, you might just peek in a mobo manual. usually they have a diagram for their fan headers telling you which wire is which.

Yeah, he ordered 3 pin fans, instead he got 2 pin fans. I got those 2 pin NMBs, there are no adapters for them, I had to splice the wires.

It is kind of pointless to speculate, but I am going to guess he ordered 3 pin fans and that is what he got. A lot of power supplies just have 2 pin fan connectors in them.

you guys are funny! :) there's no speculation. he states he ordered 3-pin, but now he needs just 2-wires for inside psu. he wants to know which to use! :D

as i said previously, the middle wire (red) is the 12v power wire. the black wire should be ground. the last wire, which could vary in color is the RPM sensor.

oh, and DoggieDog, some places will sell fans with no connectors. a bit cheaper too.

He ordered 3 pin fans. Then, after opening the PSU, he found that the fans inside the PSU are 2-pin.

Drewski's first post hit it right on - the RPM sense wire can just be snipped off, unless you really want to monitor the RPM's - then you need some other connector which'll hook to a fan header on the motherboard.

And in case you've not done anything on the inside of a powersupply before, be really careful - some components may still retain a charge. If I'm going to be working in a power supply, I turn the PC off using the switch on the back of the unit; just turning the system off with the power button doesn't actually shut the power supply off completely. But even so, don't touch anything in the PSU other than the wires you need, and don't try to reach into any tight places with your fingers.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered the 3 pins because I was going to replace the fans in my case but when I opened the PSU, I noticed they were 2 pin connectors so ding ding ding Drewski, BG4533 and Jeff7 are correct. I will splice the wires like you guys said. Thanks.

Oops, I guess I must thought that after he opened the box he got 2 pin fans. My bad, twice.
