hi i'm going to buy the asus p8z77-v pro and install more fans than the number which this motherboard supports, and propably i'm going to use 2 pin splitters for the extra fans, do you know if these fans can be controlled through the fan xpert2 utility of asus? or do you recommend me to use a molex to 3 pin from psu and a fan controller in order to control activate/deactivate that extra fans, if yes which fan controller do you recommend?
thanks

If you are going for the most stable and high overclock, you actually want to connect the LEAST amount of things to the motherboard as possible. This would exclude the fans as well..

Even if it's in the design of the board to power all those fans, The fan still draws power from the board. This could potentially hamper overclocking, because the traces are extremely complicated nowadays and often lay so close together because of automated design.

Electrical interference.

Maybe it's time to back off 100Mhz if you're mobo can't handle the overclock and a couple fans. And actually I'm doubting very much if this makes any difference, unless maybe you're into doing silly LN2 suicide runs.

But to answer the question: Fan Xpert 2 works fine using a splitter. Only thing that messes it up is if you put 2 different rpm fans on 1 header.

Btw, if you're really into silent builds I wouldn't pick Asus. The bios fancontrol is complete crap because it won't allow you to go below 60% fanspeed. Fan Xpert is slightly better, but won't allow you to set speeds below the minimum startup voltage of your fans.

When it comes to fancontrol only Intel motherboards are really good. Gigabyte at least allows you to use Speedfan without silly limits.
