Have to remember this is the story of the young wizard, so and since in the classic original version the wiz turns out to be less than up front with the little lady from Kansas, having JF playing the young pre-wizard part seemed pretty good casting.
Someone else noticed or made a connection that in the beginning appearance by Michelle Williams, that it was revealed she is the mother to be of the Kansas Dorothy from the original classic. I didn't pick up on that. Im not an OZ expert.
To me, the ending would have been better if as the two witches flew away, a dark shadow overhead catches their attention and suddenly a large darkened object resembling a flying farm house collides taking one of the two out of the sky.
That would have been a nice connection between the two OZ movies.
But as later pointed out to me, the wizard would have had to age to an old man over night for that to work out. And the munchkins were all at the Emerald City, so they would not have been there to greet Dorothy.
What the hay, its just a movie. Good though. Especially in 3D.
The tornado effect used was the same technique as used in the original classic.
And understanding the relationship between the two wicked sisters/witches, I was glad we went and seen play WICKED when it was in town. Kind of all fit together.
If they do another version to fit in between this and the original classic, where the wizard is a bit older, i doubt they keep james franco in the role.
But I can definitely see a follow-up on its way, eventually. Hope so.
