3 months into lease, and company changes the terms

So I moved to Atlanta, and have been renting an apartment through Post Propierties. Three months in the complex got purchased by Juipter communities. They just recently sent everyone a letter with changes in fees.

They doubled the late payement charge to 10%, doubled the check return charge, made the pet fee $750, and instituted a $25 fine if you leave a grabage bag outside your door, oh this fine doubles with each offense.

Now I don't plan on being late with my payments, or bouncing checks but all these fees are specifically stated to be less in my lease. The pet fee really bothers me too, since only a portion is refundable, the rest is for the privelage of having a pet.

How can they do this, are they just hoping nobody complains? I mean as long as we're unilaterily changing the terms of our leasing agreement, I think I should pay $100 rent.

contact your local tennants association. They probably can do this, but you probably also have the right to leave without worrying about breaking their lease.
