3 monitors: surround gaming?

i dont game so im wondering if theres anything out there that will allow me to use one dual head and one pci vid card to surround game

2 monitors would so own for sniping in first person shooters I think. 1 monitor w/ the zoomed scope, other in normal view. Prob would be considered a hack tho.. *shrug* Still be cool to have 2 LCDs setup to show double the view. 😛 Would need helluva vcard I'd suspect tho..?

Nah, the only way you'll get surround gaming is with a Matrox Parhelia. There's really no way for a game to split its 3D rendering across completely seperate graphics processors, and i think AGP's upband is too slow to hack that together by sending image data to the PCI card and using it as a dumb video adapter. Even if it were fast enough, that would entail a _lot_ of hacking on the linux DRI drivers 😛

hahahah,

....yeah you have to get a matrox P-series card to get surround gaming, an agp + pci combo will not work.

yea i guess its not worth the hassel

i could sell the cards i have now and that'll give me the dough for the new card

The Parhellia would work, but I think as a rule very few games actually support playing accross all three monitors. I do know that flight sims do work with several monitors. I do recall (I think) seeing Quake III forced to run accross 3 monitors too, so I suppose it is possible. Though I also suppose most games need to be hacked to support the "unstandard" resolution of 3 displays. And yeah, a sniper-type game with two views (normal/zoomed) would be a serious hack and would remove the challenge of the game. But that's just me. I had hacks/cheats/mods that help you hack/cheat. (mods to make the game look different, but play the same are a-okay!)

Dunno if you really want to do it, remember you only have one graphic card - splitted into two or three monitors = less fps = less frags

Unless you can run three ATI 9800 Pros with three separate monitors... and somehow connect them all together...

For those who want wide-screen gaming, there's always the Apple/Sony/Hitachi widescreen monitors.
I run my Athlon off an Apple 22" Cinema Display, and gaming on it is a blast (1600x1024; 16:10 aspect ratio).
