I have an Nvidia Quadro FX580 and have been wanting to upgrade to the new line of Nvidia graphics cards. The thing is that my new job would be made much easier if I had 3 instead of 2 monitors. I'm not much of a gamer and I do high poly 3D modeling as a hobby. But, unlike gaming cards, 3D workstation cards get extremely expensive once you add the third monitor.
I may be wrong, but from what I understand, 3D workstation cards are much better for 3D modeling than gaming cards of the same price. So, I want to stick with a 3D workstation, but I also want to have 3 monitors.
There are a few options that may be possible, but I know too little about graphics cards to confirm:
1. Is there some kind of graphics card that you could plug into a pci spot to just add another monitor and use your old graphics card to power the other two monitors. I know that SLI allows for two graphics cards to work together. Does it work between different models, or would I need to use another FX580? Is there a solution that would use a PCI slot rather than a PCI express slot, or should I get another motherboard?
2. Is there a cheaper workstation card than the new Quadro series?
3. Are workstation cards really better? Or is there a good solution that uses a different type of graphics card.
I would like my purchase to be under $200 or under $100 is better. Thanks for your help.
