The western Chinese region of Xinjiang is home to a large population of Uyghur people, a predominantly Muslim ethnic group which has long had an uncomfortable and sometimes fractious relationship with the Han-majority Chinese government.
In recent years, the government has detained large numbers of Uyghurs in what former detainees describe as re-education centers with prison-like conditions, aimed at eradicating Uyghur cultural and religious practices and instilling Communist Party propaganda—a practice described by one as "cultural genocide."

However, Beijing has repeatedly denied the Uyghur citizens are being held in such large numbers and against their will, calling the camps instead "vocational education training centers." Speaking at his daily press briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said claims of concentration camps in Xinjiang were "simply not true" and claimed the mass camps were set up to "combat terrorism."

"We urge the relevant US individual to respect the fact, abandon bias, exercise prudence in words and deeds, stop interfering in China's domestic affairs and earnestly contribute to mutual trust and cooperation between us," he said.
Beijing has been under increasing pressure in the past six months to shut down its mass camps in Xinjiang. Even Chinese diplomatic partner Turkey labeled the camps a "great shame for humanity" in February.

The Chinese government can eat a dick. Anything we can do to antagonize them short of outright war is just fine with me.

Who knew. So you are now concerned about the abuse of Muslims? Or is kicking big bad China more to the point?

heh, apparently kicking big bad conservatives is more to your purpose.

To answer your question, yes, the abuse of Muslims or any minority is concerning.

While China’s treatment of the Uighur is certainly horrific I don’t think for a second that conservatives actually give a shit about human rights violations. Where is the conservative outrage about Saudi Arabia, for example? I suspect this is conservative media whipping support for Trump’s stupid trade war.

Even for you specifically I don’t remember you being particularly concerned about the US government enacting a ban on Muslim immigration.

As far as I can recall, the current negotiations have even avoided talking about China's concentration camps. It's a real issue, but it's only being brought up now as cover.

Yes, because I tend to draw a distinction between not allowing people from troubled countries into the country, and herding them into internment camps.

Yeah, separating families and putting children in cages sounds pretty horrific. Oh wait, that wasn't China.

Disingenuous prick.

So, just to be clear. You dont draw any distinction between the US' immigration enforcement and China's detainment of 3 million Chinese Muslims in reeducation camps. Correct?

This is a strange, strange feeling, this... agreeing with you.

Idk about antagonizing, but their nazi-esque toxic nationalism, aggressive expansionism and nonstop theft can fuck right off. I feel legitimate sympathy for the Chinese people, but especially the Uighurs. One more reason to hate the CCP. They ram one of our boats or down a plane in international waters (as some Chinese fully support) I hope we 'antagonize' that shiny new Navy of theirs right to the bottom of the Pacific.

Given that much of the anti-Muslim rhetoric in the US over the past several years has focused on Muslims already living lawfully in the US, I don't see the questioning of the motives here as unreasonable. Besides the agenda to keep Muslims from immigrating to the US, what was the plan for the Muslims already here if not detention and re-education or forcible deportation?

Not correct. What China is doing is worse, that isn't debatable. My point is your "concern" is bullshit, you don't give a shit about muslims or immigrants in general. The only reason you "care" about this specific case is because China is the bad guy.

Hence, the disingenuous prick characterization.

Edit: Also lol at calling what the US is doing immigration enforcement, fucking clown.

Let's not mince words. Our own military intelligence says China has 3 million in concentration camps.

Pompeo tried to downplay a few days ago by saying 1 million in "re-education camps" A reporter called him on it and he accused her of playing "ticky-tack". Really fuckface?? Another low from this scumbag administration. I can't even say a new low because bottom of the barrel is Trump's norm

2 million Muslims is ticky-tack? I bet Trump would have jumped through hoops if China was holding 2 million Norwegians in concentration camps

Not quite. A Trump appointee said there might be up to 3M. Trust that only if you want to believe it.

I expressed my own genuine concern and asked a serious question.

Conservatives don't give a shit about either because of cheap oil for big suvs and trucks thanks to the Saudi's and others in the middle east and cheap goods from China without the worry about minimum wage, environmental controls, labor rights, etc. , allowing profits to go to the top without sharing with their fellow Americans,

question is how come the cowardly so called liberals who preach environmentalism, living wages, equal pay, global warming/climate change, human rights, etc. aren't at the forefront on these issues and the corporations that profit from them with the same kind of veracity they have when they want to boycott a state over a bathroom bill, Israel over the Palestinian issue, a baker who refuse to bake a cake for a gay couple, or any other social justice issue of the day?

I'll wait for the China experts, Joe and Hunter Biden, to weigh in on this. Probably a non-issue.
