i'm in the market for a new digital camera. i would like at least 3 megapixels and i don't want to spend a small fortune. currently i've looked at the olympus c-3020 (3.2) and the sony dsc-s75 (3.34). any input on either of these and any others would be appreciated. thanx

I dont know how much you want to spend but a Nikon 995, 990 are good cameras for that resolution. Might be a bit pricy thouhgh

I just got my Fuji FinePIX 2600 3MP camera delivered on Saturday - I'm very pleased with it. It cost me £250 ($350) but apparently you can get it much cheaper in the States.

I would highly recommend the Cannon Powershot G2.

I have the G1 and its a great camera if you like the feel of a traditional camera (ie lense in the middle of the camera, makes it easier for guys with big hands) and you want great pictures as well.

It can do all of the fancy shmancy stuff the nicons of the world can but keep that traditional feel of a camera.

The companies Nikon, Canon, and Olympus seem to be the better choices. They have experience making standard cameras. This means the lenses on cameras from these manufacturers are probably of higher quality.

I've got one of those & am quite pleased with it. the top model dsc-s85 is supposidly even better! 🙂

I'll second the Canon G2 recommendation. An excellent camera. Nikon dropped the ball with their latest camera, the 5000. The Sony is good but the memory stick is a bad idea and expensive. Check out sone excellent and unbiased reviews here.

Canon Powershot S30. $599. I'm sure you can find it for cheaper. Excellent camera. I love mine.

What sort of use are you looking at? Choice of camera depends on whether you're interested in using it for video, portability, low-light, etc.

Olympus's x040 line (2040, 3040,4040) rocks in low light (great image quality too). I don't think there's another camera that can match it. Fuji's are really good for video (this is relative to other digicams, not videocams). canons do very well for size in their digital elph line.

Yep, damn good camera. It can be found for $480. Just check pricegrabber.com.

The S30 has nearly everything the G series has, but it's much smaller. I discovered that if a camera was too big, I never took it anywhere.

i would avoid some of the low ball prices on pricegrabber/cnet shopper.. just use it as a pricematch if you can.

I would go w/ the olympus xx40 line myself, because of the fast lens. But since you're looking around the 3020, i would say the G2 is probably a little stretch for your budget after batteries/memory/whatever little accessories you might need. The G1 can probably be had lower now.. just gotta find em.
